Angels come from behind to win
The Tigers, fighting for a playoff berth, and showing no respect for age, brought their small ball approach, bunting and running, to score 1 in the first and 2 in the second off Angels starter Whitehill. The Angels finally broke through in the fourth against Rich Thorne, with Mark Freeman starting the rally by driving in the first and second runs on a liner to right. A base hit by Acevedo and a walk to Hopkins loaded the bases for Ryan Davis, who doubled to clear the bases then scored on Landry's single. The Angels added one in the fifth on a single by Bonilla and an rbi single by Acevedo to go up 7-3. The Tigers came back with 1 in the fourth and 2 bottom of the third and had the tieing run on second with 1 out but Whitehill worked out of it to keep it at 7-6. The Tigers opened the sixth with a base hit by Vick who advanced to second, but Whitehill struck out Wilson and got a fly out to center and a groundout to short to end the threat. With the game still 7-6, the Angels exploded in the top of the eighth, scoring 6 runs , highlighted by Hopkins 3 run double to put it out of reach. Combs went from behind the plate to the mound to finish it off. Lots of offensive highlight in this one, including Hopkins (4-5, 2 doubles, 3 rbi), Acevedo (4-6, rbi) and Bonila, Combs with 3 hits each and Landry, Blakey and Freeman with 2 hits each.
Tough loss for the Tigers who played will and with class.
