Diamonds Get Rolling
The York Diamonds overcame a sluggish first inning to defeat the new-look Mississauga A's 16-2 last night at Keelesdale Park.
The Diamonds starting battery combined for almost 100 years of age as crafty vet Ken Dicken was the surprise starter. The "Hawk" pitched well for 2 innings before giving way to winner Tyler Sloan who twirled two perfect innings. Mike Rochon pitched two innings striking out 3, Rob Hofstetter fanned 2 in his only inning and rookie Dan Fiorita pitched a perfect eighth.
York's offense was led by super backup utilityman Stev Foley, who had 2 homers and 6 RBI's. Don Cantwell was stellar behind the plate, made two beautiful plays at first base, and went 3-4. Rudy Naraine had 2 hits, Pete Zakkak had 4 good at bats, and Dan Fiorita collected his first big league hit.
New Skipper Dave Quennell notched his first win in a York uniform since the 2000 season. Next game is next Thursday vs the Mississauga Falcons.
