Mudcats Pull Away Late On Tom Simcho's Pinch Hit Single
Runs were hard to come by early as the 2015 finalists battled at Chartiers Valley High School. Quinn Construction managed to scratch out a run in the second inning. Greg Schneider walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Brian Ripper two-out single up the middle. The Snappers evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the third. Brandon Whitfield tripled and scored on Pat McCarthy's double to right center. The Snappers had runners on second and third with one out but Ryan Kandsberger wiggled his way out of trouble with two consecutive strike outs. The score remained tied until the top of the sixth. Tommy Pasinski lead off the inning with a single and went to second on a wild pitch. Jim Pasquine moved Pasinski to third with a ground ball to second base and then Anthony Girdano brought home the go-ahead run with a sac fly. In the top of the 7th inning, the Mudcats put three runs on the board to give them some breathing room. With one out, Kevin Quinn was hit by a John Bachman pitch. Brian Ripper followed with a walk putting runners at first and second. Coach Simcho decided to pinch hit himself for DH Todd Sekowski. The move paid off as the veteran lefty laced (blooped) a single over the first baseman's head to bring home Quinn and Ripper making it a 4-1 score. Simcho scored on a Tommy Pasinski ground ball to make it 5-1 Mudcats. The Snappers didn't go down without a fight in the bottom half of the 7th. With two outs, Mike McCarthy reached on an error and Pasquine hit Whitfield and Pat McCarthy to load the bases. Jon Leber came to the plate as the tying run but Pasquine recorded the strike out to end the game and earn the save.
