Game 15 - Quinn Construction Wins Fourth Title In Six Years

It was a fight til the end and the Garden Bar Snappers didnt go down quietly. In a battle of DNL heavyweights, Quinn Construction put the finishing touches on a great season by beating the Snappers 7-5 at Millennium Field. The Mudcats got on the board quickly in the first inning. Greg Schneider and Tarran Senay singled to start rally. Schneider came around to score on an AJ Olasz hard grounder that was misplayed. The Mudcats took advantage of an error in the second inning to up the lead to 3-0. Schneider drove home two runs with two outs on a single after a misplayed fly ball to left. The Snappers tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Brandon Whitfield lead off the inning with a double. John Zilles, Jon Leber and Matt Mulvihill followed with singles to knot the game at 3-3. The Mudcats then took the lead back in the fourth inning. Tommy Pasinski and Colin Williamson lead off the fourth with back to back singles. Eric Morrison was trying to move the runners with a sac bunt and laid down a beauty to reach on a single. With the bases loaded and one out, Schneider laced a double into the right field gap to make it 5-3. Jim Pasquine brought home Morrison with a sac fly to make it 6-3, Mudcats. Quinn Construction starter, Kenny Gault, struck out the side in the bottom of the fourth, all with a 3-2 count. Snappers' starter Matt Nelson responded with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fifth. Things got interesting in the bottom of the fifth inning though. With one out, Billy Wasko and Mike McCarthy hit singles to put runners at first and second. Gault was pulled from the game in favor of reliever Pasquine. Pasquine's first pitch was a hanging curve ball that Pat McCarthy drilled into the left field corner for a two RBI double making it 6-5. Logan Urtz was intentionally walked to put runners at first and second. Pasquine got Whitfield to pop up for the second out but Zilles delivered a two-out single to center and it looked like the game would be tied with the speedy McCarthy running. Tommy Pasinski had other plans. Pasinski threw a laser to home to nail McCarthy at the plate and preserve the 6-5 lead. In the top of the 7th inning, Quinn Construction got an important insurance run. With one out, Pasquine doubled to left center and then stole third. Jake Liposky took his place and scored on Senay's sac fly to left giving the Mudcats a 7-5 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, Tom McCarthy reached base on a misplayed ball in the outfield. Pasquine got Wasko and Mike McCarthy to fly out and then plunked Pat McCarthy with the first pitch to bring the winning run to the plate in Logan Urtz. Urtz hit a hard grounder right at AJ Olasz at first who flipped it to Pasquine for the game clinching out. Quinn Construction finishes the year with a 23-2 record and notches their 4th DNL title in the past six years.
