Carter Grote's Amazing Catch Saves The Game for Pasta Too
It was fitting that this great baseball game ended with an unbelievable catch by Pasta Too's centerfielder Carter Grote. With Pasta Too clinging to a 5-4 lead, the Snappers had runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Snappers catcher Clay Groff had a 3-2 count and blasted a ball to deep center. Grote, in an all out sprint, caught the ball over his head and immediately slammed into the fence and crashed to the ground with the final out. Earlier in the game the Snappers were in control after a leadoff first inning solo shot by Mike McCarthy and the big blow, a 3rd inning Brandon Whitfield three run parking lot shot. Pasta Too finally got to Snappers pitcher D.J. Cannon in the 5th putting 3 runs on the board keyed by a Dylan Kugler two run double to make it 4-3 Snappers. In the bottom of the 6th the never say die Pasta Too squad mounted another rally, and Ryan Dodson drove in what would be the winning runs with a two out, tow strike, two RBI double to deep left centerfield. Dodson was 2-3 on the evening with the two RBI and also scored a run. Pasta Too's Nick Arnoni picked up the win in relief of starter Dylan Pounds who went five innings and struck out five with two walks. Arnoni struck out two and walked three in his scoreless two innings of work. The win pushes the undefeated Pasta Too squad to 6-0 on the season while the Snappers move to 5-2.
