Comeback win for Sox over Cubs

Cubs had an early lead 7-2. In the 5th but could not hold down a potent Red Sox lineup of 17 hitters.Javi Oliveras and Javi Perro Pagan led Cubs hitting with 2 hits.

The Boston Red Sox fell behind 7-2 early to the Chicago Cubs and felt the game slipping away. The Sox’s uncharacteristically sloppy defense seemed to be spoiling a strong pitching debut by Mike Monel. The Red Sox started to rally by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth sparked by a long triple by José Comella. The comeback continued in the sixth with a run-scoring single by Raul Nieto and then climaxed with a clutch two-run single by Manny Leonardo after fighting off several pitches to keep his at-bat alive. It provided redemption and made everyone forget his miscue in the field! Glen Knobel and Alex Rodriguez led the way with two hits each, and they both hit towering doubles to centerfield driving in two insurance runs. Lionel Martinez picked up the win with two effective innings in relief, and Alex Rodriguez slammed the door shut in the final two innings to gain the save.
