Bears win pitchers duel in extra innings
Ethan Martin capped a 3-for-4 night with a walk-off, game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth as the Bears won a tense pitcher’s duel with Norchester, 2-1. Sam Legerton led off the inning by being hit by a pitch, the fourth time that the Bears had a batter hit by pitch, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Davis. Martin – who drove in the Bears’ other run in the fifth inning - then followed a fly out with a single to left field to drive home Legerton with the game-winning run. Stephen Cisik struck out 5 batters (all in succession) in 3 innings of relief to pick up the win. Both starting pitchers (Tony Xanthopoulos of Boyertown and Sam Morris of Norchester) had strong outings. (UMPIRES: Steve Hart (H), Alan Buggraf (B)). (NOTE: Two out when winning run scored.)
