Brill hangs on to defeat Hornets 7-5
The Brill Millers opened up a 7-1 lead with 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth and then withstood a late rally by the Hornets to hang onto 7-5 victory at Brill on Sunday.
Brill opened the scoring in the bottom of the third on Todd Brunclik's 2-run homer to left. The Hornets cut the lead to 2-1 on an Isaac Rohde RBI single in the top of the fourth. Brill answered with a run in bottom of the fourth to go up 3-1. Billy Brown's two-out triple capped Brill's big 5th inning, making it 6-1. Brown then scored on a wild pitch to put Brill up 7-1.
The Hornets rallied for four runs in the top of the eighth, and had the tying runs on base with one-out but were unable to get any closer than the 7-5 final score.
Hunter Ashlin was the winning pitcher going 7 innings, with Rece Dietriech throwing a perfect 9th for the save.
Hornets starter Matt Juza went 4.2 innings and allowed all 7 runs to take the loss. Christian Lindow threw 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to give the Hornets a chance to mount the comeback that came up short.
Rohde had two hits for the Hornets, while Juza doubled. Brunclik had four hits, including the homer and Brandon Johns a pair of hits including a double to lead Brill's attack.
