Bruins Outlast Brewers to Advance to Championship
Its always close when these two friendly rivals face off. Incredible pitching (combined 4 ER over 26 innings) and timely defense (4 double plays) by both squads highlighted this nail bitter marathon.
Matt Trites broke the game open in the 4th with a home run to stake the Brewers to a 3-0 lead. It looked to be enough, as Chris Temple dazzled the Bruin bats for 10+ innings - Yes, 10+ innings!
But the Bears finally got a rally going in the 8th, as James White manufactured a run on a single, wild pitch, and SB when the throw to third skipped into left field. A walk and SB by Adam Caparell set the table for Jade Devitt to deliver a 2-out RBI double to tie it up.
Dave Noll started for the Bruins and kept the tenacious Brewers at bay, surrendering 4 unearned runs over 5+ innings. Then Big James White took over. Having not pitched in over a month, and never throwing more than 2 innings in a game, White went to work, striking out 2 and stranding two inherited runners to end the 6th. White continued, shutting out the Crew for 7+ innings of 1-hit relief, and earning the win.
Hats off the the Brewers who won their final two games of the regular season to make the playoffs, and played a fantastic game minus a few regulars. Well done, gentlemen!
