Mudcats Stun Snappers In The Bottom Of The 7th

A Quinn Construction/Snappers game is usually pretty entertaining and almost always a close battle. Tonight was no different as the two teams clashed at Millennium Park. The Snappers jumped ahead first when Mike McCarthy lead off the game with an inside the park home run. Quinn Construction quickly answered in the bottom half of the first. Jake McCaskey laced a single up the middle and moved to third on John Sansone's double to right center. Jim Pasquine singled to bring in McCaskey and Sansone moved to third. Sansone came home on an AJ Olasz fielder's choice, making it 2-1. The Snappers tied the game in the 4th inning when Tyler Holland tripled home Brandon Whitfield. Once again, the Mudcats answered quickly and took the lead back in the bottom half of the 4th inning. Nate Thimons doubled home Eric Morrison to take the lead back at 3-2. The game got away from Quinn Construction in the top of the 5th inning. Reliever, Zack Salmon, walked three and hit a batter as he surrendered four runs that gave the Snappers a 6-3 lead that they would hold onto going into the bottom of the 7th inning. Nate Thimons lead off the bottom of the 7th with a single to right. Tommy Pasinski followed with a single and Logan Simmons drew a walk to load the bases. Jake McCaskey stepped up and launched a pitch deep into the night air that looked like a walk off grand slam but it landed just short only driving in one run to make the score 6-4. With bases loaded and no outs, John Sansone hit into a 5-4-3 double play that brought Pasinski home making it 6-5. With Logan Simmons standing on third as the tying run, the Snappers decided to intentionally walk Jim Pasquine and put the winning run aboard. AJ Olasz made them pay for that as he drove a shot into the left center gap just dropping in front of a diving Pat McCarthy. Simmons scored and Pasquine came all the way around from first for the comeback walkoff win. Zack Salmon recorded the win with three innings of work in relief of Brody Simmons who tossed four quality innings.
