Early Lead For Windham HS Seals Fate For Scarborough HS Softball
Scarborough HS Softball watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 9-5 loss to Windham HS on Friday. Windham HS scored on a single by Chloe Edward, a double by Brooke Gerry, a single by Ella Wilcox, and a double by Stella Jarvais in the second inning.
After Windham HS scored three runs in the top of the sixth, Scarborough HS Softball answered with three of their own. Windham HS scored when Wilcox doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, Kennedy Kimball grounded out, scoring one run, and Ellie Wilson grounded out, scoring one run. Scarborough HS Softball then answered when Katie Roy singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run and Alana Sawyer doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.
Windham HS pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Edward singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, Gerry doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs, Wilcox singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Jarvais doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.
Gerry was the winning pitcher for Windham HS. The hurler allowed eight hits and four runs over six innings, striking out 14 and walking one. Kimball threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Angelina Pizzella took the loss for Scarborough HS Softball. The righthander allowed seven hits and five runs over one inning, striking out one.
Scarborough HS Softball had ten hits in the game. Sawyer, Calynn Gendreau, and Pizzella each had multiple hits for Scarborough HS Softball. Sawyer led Scarborough HS Softball with three hits in three at bats.
Windham HS totaled 14 hits in the game. Gerry, Wilcox, Hannah Heanssler, and Jarvais all managed multiple hits for Windham HS. Gerry went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Windham HS in hits. Windham HS was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Jarvais made the most plays with 14.
