Game 12- Quinn Construction Tops Snappers For Finals Spot

A yearly tradition will not take place in 2022. Since 2014, the Quinn Construction Mudcats and the Snappers have met in the DNL finals every year except one. Quinn Construction will be facing a new opponent this year as they ousted the Snappers in the semifinals last night 6-4 at Boyce Mayview Park. The Mudcats jumped on Snappers starter Joe Altvater quickly. Ed Pfluger lead off the game with a single and came home on Jim Pasquine's double to make it 1-0. Pasquine came home when Tarran Senay smacked a double of his own off the right field fence to make it 2-0. Senay made it 3-0 on Bert Kovalsky's single. The Snappers made it 3-1 in the 2nd. Brandon Whitfield walked and came all the way around to score on a Vince Dorazio double. The Mudcats had a response though in the top of the 3rd. Eric Morrison got plunked and then reached second on a Bert Kovalsky hit and run single. AJ Olasz hit a ground ball right at Whitfield at second base but the Snappers were unable to complete the double play as Whitfield?s feed pulled the shortstop?s foot off the second base bag. Devin Matey made the Snappers pay as he laced a single to left that brought home Morrison and Kovalsky to up the score to 5-1. Pasquine made it 6-1 in the 4th inning all by himself. Pasquine singled, swiped second, swiped third, and scored on a wild pitch. The score remained that way until the 7th. Quinn Construction starter Kenny Gault breezed his way through the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th innings with minimal resistance. Of course, the Snappers put up a fight in the 7th and didn?t go quietly. Jon Leber singled. After Gault struck out Clay Groff, Josh Forbes singled putting runners at first and second. Mike McCarthy cleared the bases with a 3-run blast making the score 6-4. Gault was taken out of the game and relieved by Pasquine. Pasquine got Dave McCarthy to fly out to right field for the second out. Pat McCarthy then hit a ground ball to short and reached on an error as the throw got past Senay at first. Anthony Fanelli stepped to the plate as the tying run but Pasquine got him to hit a ground ball to short to end the game. Gault earned the win with 6.1 innings of work and Pasquine earned the save. Altvater took the loss for the Snappers. The Mudcats will now wait for the winner of the Titans and South Park matchup to see who they play in the DNL finals which will begin on Sunday at Winklevoss Field.
