Tigers move on
Anybody that saw the 9.5 run "over and under" line for the pitching matchup between Reilly Smith and Christian Wright in the Opening Round of the Federal Division playoffs and then ran to Vegas to lay a wad on "Under," lost their shirt.
The hitting was too good. For both teams.
The Cats quickly jumped, building a 6 run lead before the late-arriving crowd had found their seats in the 2nd. The Tigers continued to build their lead to 9-2 by the middle of the 5th.
But the Spartans didn't give up. They jumped for 4 in the bottom of the frame to shave the lead to only 3! So the Cats clawed back for 7 in the top of the 6th to build the lead to 10! Still not enough to get the Spartans to quit--they replied with 5 and the Tiger lead was only 5 after 6 innings.
Fortunately for the Cats, they added on 3 in the 8th to push the lead to 8 and hold off the never-say-die Spartans.
All the Cats contributed, but special clutch hitting came from the bottom of the Tiger lineup:
Stefan Marks: 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored, an RBI and SB
Simon Park: 2 for 4 with a double, 2 runs scored and SB
Justin Peress: 3 for 4 with a double, triple, 3 runs scored and RBI
