A's Roll to franchise 7th title!
A great day for Athletics31 baseball!
Defeating the pirates 24-3 capped off a great season where the A's were looking for a little redemption to last seasons semifinal meltdown..and the A's did exactly that!🏆
After spending the entire season sitting in the 2 or 3 spot in division standings, the A's rolled down the stretch, winning 8 of 9, including the final game of the season against the then 1st place Red Sox, Clinching 1st place going into playoffs!
The A's went into the semi vs. a very tough condors team that had won 2 out of 3 Head to head on the season.
The A's came out strong, putting up 8 runs in the first 4 innings.
The condors scrapped back, putting up 4 runs but the A's held on for an 8-4 victory, sending them to the championship game!
Going into championship week, this team was as hungry as I've ever seen it, we simply could not wait to get onto the field and explode on the Pirates!
Ken Stefanelli and the A's defense set the Pirates down in order in the top of the 1st, highlighted by an ESPN top 10 backhand stab at 3B by Brett Wreede, finishing with an across the diamond strike to first base to set the tone for the day.
The A's picked up the bats in the bottom of the frame and went to work, sending 10 batters to the plate, pounding out 4 hits, taking advantage of 4 free passes to post a 6 spot and the A's were off and running!
The pirates answered with 2 runs in the top of the 2nd to keep within striking distance.
But the A's sent another 11 batters to the plate, pounding out 6 more hits, pushing another 6 runs across and chased pirates starting pitcher Pete Cesario, in his shortest outing of the season.
The A's continued to hit and score runs throughout the game.
A's pitching shut the pirates down over the last 6 innings, giving the Athletics31 their 2nd Championship is 3 seasons, their 7th overall franchise title!
Respect to the Pirates for battling all the way, never giving up, never quitting!
The Pirates had a nice season going 13-7
The A's finished the season winning 10 of 11 with an overall record of 16-4 (48-9 since 2020)
Congrats also to A's Center Fielder/Closer Adam Kipling for winning the hitter of the year award!
The A's look forward to the challenge of the 2024 season in the federal division!
