South Park Breaks 7th Inning Tie To Win 6-3 On The Road

South Park veteran ace Dylan Pounds and Aul Bat Company's Tom Bash matched up for a pitchers duel on a sweltering hot day. Aul Bat Company drew first blood in the second when Colby Rockacy hit a one out double. Rockacy would score on a 2 out single by Ethan Young. South Park answered in the top of the 3rd with a David Monaco one out walk followed by a Luis Gonzalez double off the fence to score Monaco and tie it up at 1. Gonzalez would come around to score and make it 2-1 South Park on a clutch 2 out single by Matt Mish. In the bottom of the inning South Park looked as though their fielders were using skillets as they committed 3 infield errors allowing Aul Bat 2 unearned runs as they retook the lead 3-2. South Park was able to respond in the top of the 4th when Anthony Monaco drew a leadoff walk and stole second. He would advance to 3rd on a Jose Moreno single and scored one batter later on a ground out by Adam Dodson who would prove to be huge later in the game. The score remained knotted at 3 heading into the 7th. With one out Dodson would scorch a grounder to second base that was not fielded cleanly and as the 12 year DNL veteran reached the bag just ahead of the throw, he stumbled and fell to the ground. Pinch runner Brandon Clifford came on to replace Dodson and Josh Peremba came to the plate and delivered a single to put Clifford and the go ahead run at second. In a somewhat unconventional move, South Park manager Mike Monaco had David Monaco lay down a one out sacrifice bunt that moved runners to second and third with 2 outs and turned the lineup over to their Venezuelan slugger Luis Gonzalez. With first base open Aul Bats chose to intentionally walk Gonzalez and face Adam Weber. Weber would answer the bell with a single to left that scored Clifford and Peremba to make it 5-3 South Park. Weber would steal second and come around to score the 6th and final run on a Mish single. Pounds would set the Aul Bat Company down in order in the 7th to secure the win in his final regular season start in his storied Daily News League career.
