Game 12 - South Park Powers Past Port Vue And Into Finals

South Park got things rolling in the bottom of the first as leadoff batter Anthony Monaco took an HBP and Luis Gonzalez followed that with a towering home run into the trees beyond center field. South Park starting pitcher Brandon Clifford kept Port Vue off the board through the first three innings before giving up an unearned run in the fourth. South Park would respond with a huge 7 run barrage in the bottom half, pounding out 5 hits, a walk and an HBP, then featuring a 2 run blast by Zac Stern. Stern was a force in the 9 hole, collecting a double and 2 walks along with his homer. He collected 5 rbi as well. With the score at 11-1, Clifford called it a night after his 6 strikeout, 2 hit performance and South Park went to Christian Hoffman out of the bullpen and he pitched the final 2 frames allowing 2 runs and 2 hits. With the win, South Park advances to the Daily News League Championship for the second consecutive season and the fourth time in the 12 year franchise history to take on the foe who defeated them in the 2023 championship, Quinn Construction. The Best Of Three series will get under way Saturday at noon at the home field of Quinn Construction, Winklevoss Park. Game 2 will be Sunday at Evans Field, beginning 8:00 p.m. With the loss, Port Vue concluded its impressive climb over the last four years since their expansion season of 2021. This year the River Cats collected its first ever post season victory along with a trip to the playoff semi finals.
