Tigers Roar!
On a beautiful day at Glendale Sports Complex, the Tigers squared off against the hottest team in the Central Division and perennial powerhouse, the Valley Brewers. Both teams' bats came out hotter than the weather and it was a bloodbath as the line score shows! Runners crossed the plate in buckets until Tiger reliever, Ben Sheehan slowed the hot bats of the Brewers.
The Cats' bats kept firing on all cylinders through the playoffs. Everyone contributed today with noteworthy performances by Kris Wynne (4 hits, 4 rbis), Louie Opatz (2 singles, a double and 5 runs scored), Jade Devitt (3 hits and 2 rbis), Dan Magnante (3 hits and 3 runs), Troy Combs (3 hits with 4 rbis and 4 runs), Sheehan (3 hits, a triple, 4 runs and 5 rbis) and clutch hits in crucial situations by Randy Garza and Stefan Marks. Although with all that I think the hardest hit ball of the entire afternoon was a line drive by Chris Bishop who had it stolen by Cesar Vargas at 3rd.
Tigers never quit in this game, even when things looked bleak. It's a privilege to coach them.
Special props to the Brewers, always a tough opponent and more importantly a classy bunch of guys. And even more to Steve Fleishman. He's built another really good team and he did a masterful job of managing them in this game even if the results don't show it.
Also, Tip-O-The-Tiger-Cap to retiring Spartan Manager Dave Robinson. He built strong teams year after year and was always a pleasure to play against.
Last but not least, a GIANT thank you to Dave Becker. It isn't easy to run an organization like this and he makes it run smoothly despite many unexpected obstacles. We are lucky to have him.
