Many Delays & 8 Doubleplays later Condors win & Advance
This game was scheduled for 9am. At 7 am it was changed to 10. Texts and emails and phone calls were made. At 745 it was swithched to 930am. More texts and phone calls. Umpires and players alike were delayed. One Condor, Rene Hurtado, texted from Mexico where he'd been celebrating his mom's birthday he might be a little late (ftr he managed to show up in the bottom of the 1st, in time to go 3 for 4 with 3 rbi's). In the end, the game officially started at 945. Both teams more or less at full strength...for awhile. For various reasons, a few players from both sides left early.
It was actually a crisp, well played game with each team turning 4 double-plays to stop potential rallies. To be sure a few were not what you'd call conventional.
In the end both pitchers went the distance and controlled the action. These two teams split 12 run blowouts earlier in the season, but on this day, in a close game, Jay Smith and the Condors were just a little bit better than Chris Bocchino and the Royals.
A special shout out and well wishes to Royals right fielder Brian O'neal, who went down diving for a fly ball in the 4th, suffering a nasty arm/elbow injury. Though he didn't catch it, he nonetheless officially started one of the double-plays, thanks to a magical combination of circumstances that only the LABL could manufacture. We scored it 9-8-3-6-3-4-3, but really, no one knows for sure. Fortunately there were a couple of qualified medical people on hand, one in the Royals dugout and another in the stands. They took good care of Brian and got him to an ambulance. A special thanks to them. Here's to hoping Brian wlll be back in action soon.
In 2 weeks, after the holiday break and weather permitting, the Condors and the Cubs will meet in a rematch of last year's Fall season finale. Hopefully it goes off a little more smoothly and less painfully.
Happy Thanksgiving one and all!
