Diamonds Now at 8-5 in MSBL Play
The York Diamonds and Vaughan Expos completed their three game series with a twinbill last night. York won two of the three games, winning 15-2 on Thursday and 11-2 in Game 1 of the doubleheader, before the Expos took the nightcap 8-6.
On Thursday, Eric Foley went five strong innings, striking out ten and allowing only three hits. Josh Barber and Chetan Gandhi each threw an inning in relief. Eric also went 3-3 with 3 RBI and Steve Foley also had 3 hits and 3 RBI. Manny Rodriguez and Owen McLaughlin each had 2 hits for the Diamonds, with McLaughlin driving in 4 runs. Dave Wiseman had his first base hit since the 1997 season. Chuck Simpson took the loss for the Expos.
In Sunday's first game, McLaughlin struggled with his command a bit but still twirled six innings of 2 run ball. He also added 3 hits, while Steve Foley had 3 hits, including home run #6. Brent Sterling and Paul Freeman had two hits apiece. Former Diamond Mike Rochon was charged with the loss bat battled hard to go the distance. Another fromer Diamond, Evan DePiero had 2 hits, as did Mike Holian and Jimmy Gonzalez.
In the nightcap Holian opposed Diamonds righty Dan Fiorita. Both pitchers had to deal with a tiny, but consistent strike zone, which yielded many walks early in the contest. While Fiorita pitched well, Holian was even better, allowing only 3 hits, two by Josh Barber and one by John Raddi. Richard Peach had 2 hits for the Expos and Ron Chatzissavas and Rich Getty each had clutch 2 run singles with 2 outs.
