Angels Take Season Opener
This game between the Angels and the Knights looked like a contest between teams that hadn't played in a month, marked by sloppy defense,a lot sloppier by the Knights, whose 7 errors led to 3 of the Angels' runs. The Angels did manage to bang out 15 hits 3 by Paul Prince (3-3, rbi) 2 by Jason Gill (who came through big with a 4 inning save) 2 by Charles Blakey (2-4, rbi) and 3 by Mark Batchelor (3-4, 2 rbi)who had the thrill of having his son, Colby, run for him after getting his third hit of the day. But the biggest hit of the day barely left the infield as Steve Apperson dunked one into shallow right to score 2 in the ninth and give the Angels a 3 run cushion to take into the bottom of the ninth. Play of the day on defense was Blakey's diving catch, going away of Salazar's drive to deep right center which would have given the Knights the lead.
