Diamonds Keep Rolling
Diamonds Keep Rolling
After waiting for what seemed like an eternity for to begin the game, the York Diamonds overcame a sluggish start to defeat the expansion Brampton Knights 12-5 at Keelesdale Park last night. Rob Hofstetter picked up win #1, going 4 innings before being aided by Dan Fiorita (2 innings 4 K's) and newly annointed closer Steve Foley (a runless inning).
Foley also chipped in with home run #3 on the year. Rudy Naraine had 3 singles and Don Cantwell a hit, 2 RBI's and 2 stolen bases. York stole 6 bases on the night and generally played a good game.
Skipper Dave Quennell came down with the Keelsdale Goose Flu and snored throughout his postgame teleconference so Brent Sterling stepped in and had these comments: "It was a good comeback by the boys, but on a down note I am left searching for answers as to why our guys do not follow my instructions on search and rescue techniques. As a little tip, the number one rule of Ball Search and Rescue is that it is pretty difficult to find the ball if nobody ever gets off their asses to go and look for it."
Sterling then prepared to storm off but then thought better of it and softly muttered "It's ok we have a lot of novice ball searchers and under my expert tutelage I am sure they can perfect all of my techniques in short order."
Sterling then left the podium and veteran Greg Shannon stepped up to calm the media hordes who were anxious to discuss his first hit of the year, a ringing single to left. Shannon had these comments: "The claw felt good tonight and was nice to get a solid hit...however being asked to steal afterwards was totally uncalled for..doesn't my acting skipper know that I could damage my fragile, claw, back, leg, etc... with such a foolish move?" Shannon then proceeded to remark :"At least he took me out of the game next inning so I didn't risk any further injury"
