Angels Return to W Column
The Angels midseason makeover payed off as the Halos erupted for 16 hits to back the solid pitching tandem of Pinto and Smith. The top of the order excelled as Martinez, Stone and Davis went 7-12. Offensive highlights include Jorge Martinez (3-5; 2 singlesw, 3 run HR 3 runs and 3rbi); Ryan Davis (3-4; 2 doubles, 2 runs, 2 sb and 1 rbi); Matt Bellner (2-4) and Charles Blakey (3-4; 2b, 2 runs) and an honorble mention to our esteemed pool player Steve Benson who went 2-4 using a wood bat for the first time in 30 years. Pinto was solid on the hill holding the harde hitting 45's to 6 runs over 6 2/3 innings before ALex SMith came in with 2 outs in the 7th to extinguish a potential rally and then pitch 2 scoreless innings for the save, striking out 3 in the process. Newcomer Derrick Stone starred on D, making diving catches on the first two batters of the game and recording all 3 outs in the first inning. Overall solid play by both teams who continued their long and storied rivalry. Always worth the price of admission!
