Diamonds Roll On
The York Diamonds raised their record to 9-0 with a convincing 14-1 win over the Oakville Dodgers last night. Pitchers Mike Rochon, Kevin Tierney, and Dan Fiorita combined on a one-hitter, with Tierney notching the win in his first York appearance. Dan Holt took the loss for the Dodgers.
York was led by the top three RBI men in the league, with Steve Foley breaking out of his mini slump with a HR (#5) and 4 RBI (23 on the year), and Bob Corn with 2 RBI (#16,17), and Eric Foley with 2 sacrifice flies (RBI #15,16). Rookie Dan Fiorita had 3 hits to raise his average to .500, Brent Sterling had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Paul Freeman chipped in with 2 RBI.
Diamonds pitchers struck out 10 and were in command most of the night. Team photographer Rudy Naraine served as the DH and could be heard to whisper all night "Make love to the camera boys." Skipper Dave Quennell contiued his bizarre practice of adding a piece of his uniform for each game, which now consists of a hat and an undershirt. Next game he will lose the sandals and add a pair of cleats.
