Sharks win in OT over Westside
Westside nearly spoiled Senior Night at Ponte Vedra but fell one point short in a 65-64 loss in overtime. The Sharks played an all senior lineup in the first quarter and quickly fell behind 21-10. With the PVHS regular rotation back on the floor the Sharks chipped away before finally taking the lead 42-41 early in the final quarter on an Israel Nuhu dunk. After falling behind 59-55 with less than 2 minutes to play in the overtime session, the Sharks went on a 9-0 run to hold off Westside to earn their 17th victory on the season against but 2 defeats.

The Sharks had to overcome some deadly out court shooting from Westside as the visitors stayed in the contest by converting 9 of their made baskets from 3-point country. During crunch time the duo of Alex Madson and sophomore Israel Nuhu played huge roles in the Sharks 17th victory on the season. Madson hit a long 3-pointer at the 3rd quarter buzzer to draw the Sharks within 2 points at 40-38. Trailing 51-49 with less than 2 minutes left in regulation Madson hit a driving layup to tie up the game at 51 all. Both teams then traded baskets and, after a Luke Pirris 14-footer fell off the rim, the Sharks would play their first overtime game of the season.

Madson and Nuhu were standouts in the extra session. After falling behind 59-55 with 1:50 to go in overtime Nuhu and Madson made a pair of nifty passes to Rory Mayer for a pair of baskets that gave the Sharks a 61-59 lead. With 0:26 showing on the clock Nuhu cashed in a pair of free throws to give the Sharks a seeming comfortable 4-point lead. JT Kelly made 1 of a pair of free throws to pad the lead to 5. After a pair of made Westside free throws, Nuhu was fouled with less than 4 second to go. Israel cashed in one of his two free throws that would prove to be the difference in the game as a desperation shot from midcourt swished through the basket as the horn sounded to make the final score read Ponte Vedra 65 Westfield 64.
