Sharks advance to District finals with 74-51 win Ponte Vedra notched their 20th victory of the season and earned a berth in the district finals with a convincing 74-51 trumph over Deltona. Luke Perris scored a career high 35 points in 3 quarters of action to become one of only 3 Sharks to totally 30 or more points in a single game. Pirris now joins former Shark legends Beau Beech and Jackson Johnson in the 30 point club. After trailing early in the opening quarter 10-6, the Sharks then closed out the period by racing out on a 11-0 run and never looked back. Pirris with 9 and Alex Madson with 8 scored all 17 points in the opening stanza. Pirris then put on a show in the second quarter as the 6'4 Junior scored 15 of the Sharks 19 points as they took a commanding 36-17 lead into the locker room at intermission. Pirris then added 9 of the victors 23 points in the 3rd period before coach Kevin Whirity emptied much of his deep bench in the final quarter as the Sharks coasted to victory. The win sets up a district final matchup between PVHS and the Yellow Jackets of St. Augustine, who earned a berth in the finals with a 58-56 win in the opener over Pine Ridge. The Sharks defeated St. Augustine earlier in the season 65-49. Madson chipped in 17 points and teamed up with his backcourt partner, sophomore Nate Buncosky, to commit but one turnover for the entire contest. The starting five of Pirris, Madson, Buncosky, Jack Polian and Rory Mayer turned the ball over but five times in their minutes of action, a vast improvement from last weeks contests.
