Vermont drops to 2-1 with a loss to the Colts Saturday.
The Ravens traveled to Hartford this past Saturday to take on the 2-1 Colts in NEFL semi-pro football action. Having just come off a big win last week and starting the season 2-0 Vermont was excited about playing again on this beautiful afternoon. Excitement changed to chagrin as Hartford took advantage of 2 turnovers to score in the first half taking the Ravens out of their game plan of a 60-40 run pass ratio.
The Colts offense started strong and kept building steam as QB/S #18 Demetrius Lucy made plays all day. The fleet footed south paw displayed great athleticism as he carved up the Raven defense with timely scrambles and pinpoint passes. He ran for the first score at the 9:00 mark in the first from 7 yards out. The drive was highlighted by some nice running from Colt #32 Henry Meneses as he kept his feet moving and picked up many after contact yards. The PAT was good, 7-0 Colts.
Hartford extended their lead in the first at the 3:00 mark when Vermont QB #17 Alex Bell had the ball stripped and scooped by Colts #6 Dejean Canada. Down the left sideline he went with a couple blocks made the trek to pay-dirt from 90 yards out. The PAT was no good 13-0 Colts.
Turnovers are game killers and with the beforementioned fumble recovery and score Vermont did not need Mr. Lucy now playing safety making a pick-6 from now Raven QB #9 Abdi Abdi from 65 yards out and taking it to the house. The PAT was good and the score was quickly 20-0 Colts.
Lucy would aid in 6 of the 7 Hartford touchdowns, scoring one on the ground, one by interception return, and throwing four. He had TD throws of 40, 25, 12, and 35 yards.
Raven DB/KR #1 Matthew Gomes had a 20-yard interception return.
#34 Tristan Woodward had a 12-yard kick-off return
#3 RB Akeem Williams had a 30 yard run to inside the red zone.
The 2-1 Ravens are home this coming Sunday, Aug. 18 to play the 2-2 Ct. Gamblers at South Burlington HS 1:00PM kick-off. The 3-1 Colts have a bye.
