Aidan LaValley’s third-period goal supplied Northeastern Clinton with a 2-1 win over No. 3 Plattsburgh High Thursday at Ameri-Can North Sports Center. Ian Gordon tied the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys hockey game at 1-all late in the first period. “I thought it was a sloppy game but had good energy and a high tempo to it,” Hornets coach Jamie Reidy said. “(Ryan) Roberts played well as he usually does against us. It’s probably a good loss for us as we need to really learn how to close out periods and not give up quality chances at the end of periods. “Mental mistakes cost us big time (Thursday). Hopefully, we learn from it and continue to grow. NCCS has had a good start to the season, and it should be a tight CVAC right to the finish line this season.” Roberts finished with 21 saves for the Cougars, and Alex Kneifel gave Plattsburgh a 1-0 lead with 1:48 gone in the first period. — Northeastern Clinton 2, Plattsburgh High 1 NortheasternClinton 0 1 1 — 2 Plattsburgh High 010 — 1 First period- 1, PHS, Kniefel (Julian, Champagne), 1:48. 2, NCCS, Gordon (Sample), 13:09.
