The opening game of the spring 2019 NJWHL season featured Team Azul taking on Team Verde. Steph Sabaliauskas wasted no time getting the scoring started as she put Team Azul ahead two and a half minutes into the game. However, the lead did not even last one minute before Aliza Hiller tied it. Sabaliauskas added another goal later on to give her team a 2-1 lead heading into the second period. Goaltending dominated the first half of the second period as Katja Zehl and Tammy Tarn kept the score at just 2-1 until Hiller evened the score at two with 8:22 to go in the period. However, Sabaliauskas was quick to respond as she regained the lead just nine seconds later, and expanded it to 4-2 about thirty seconds after that. Hiller added a late goal to cut the lead in half as Verde trailed Azul by one going into the third period. Sabaliauskas notched her fifth of the game in the opening minute of the third, but this back-and-forth battle between herself and Hiller persisted when Hiller scored a minute and a half afterwards, making it 5-4 as Verde continued to keep pace. With ten minutes remaining, Sabaliauskas scored again, regaining a two-goal cushion. With 8:30 remaining in the game, Sabaliauskas and Hiller finally decided to share the scoring as Kat Dziadosz opened up a three-goal lead. Hiller continued to carry Verde's offense, scoring her fifth of the evening with six minutes to go, but time was running out if her team was to mount a comeback. Azul added a pair of late goals, one by Christina Mantak and another by Dziadosz to put the final score at 9-5 in favor of Team Azul.
