Two First Half Goals Help Defeat Defending State Cup ChampsMatch number two of the 2005 East Meadow Ref-Fuel's Gold Bracket pitted the Plainedge Blasters against the Albertson 90 Fury. The warm summer sun was strong on Field #13A at Wantagh Park as the Blasters managed to make two first half goals stand up against the 2005 New York State Cup Champions in a 2-1 victory.
The Blasters were first to a large percentage of balls in this match which led to many chances in the offensive end. The best early change was in minute ten as Katie took a pass from Nicky and placed the shot over the keeper and the net. Gina broke the recent scoring drought in the fifteenth minute with a perfect shot into the upper right corner on a pass from Nicky. That lead doubled in minute twenty five as Saulty slotted a ball under the on-coming Albertson keeper following a perfect throw from Meredith. Positive remarks and comments on the sidelines at halftime with a 2-0 advantage were plentiful and they continued into the second half. The defensive foursome of Liz, Alyssa, Campy, and LB frustrated the forward attack of Albertson and the outside midfielders including Nicole, Brooke, and Carly were seemingly full of run. Several Albertson corners in the second half were fended off by Plainedge, but in the sixteenth minute, one of those corners were converted to the lower left corner for a 2-1 score. Despite some great up and down action, no additional scores were recorded and the final score was 2-1. Playing at what felt like 110% of capacity, the Blasters played their most aggressive game of the U/15 season in securing this win.
