It was a long night but well worth it as you left no stone unturned. I was extremely impressed on how you guys can recall all of the kids accomplishments over the years and was impressed with how you spent an incredible amount of time on each kid. It was my first awards dinner that I have been at but now I know why everyone talks about it so much and why everyone wants to be invited. You give the kids and parents who attend great encouragement to make sure their kids work hard so that one day they will be the next MVP. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK. |

My son will be getting a trophy on awards night because he is lucky enough to play for Mama Rosa's, this year's Major League Champs, and (in my opinion) plays under some of the BEST coaches in the league! But there is something that is so much more important than that trophy, and the reason why I am so grateful, and that is the fact that my son is blessed with good health and is ABLE to play sports. So as we approach this Thanksgiving season, everyone who whines and complains about how this league is run, and who criticize the coaching staff and everything else should stop and give thanks instead that their child is blessed with good health and that we are ALL lucky to have such a wonderful league for our children to play in! |

We've been in this league for the last 4 seasons and I've never had a problem with any of the coaches or the parents. Nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement, but be happy that your child is healthy enough to play sports and be part of a team, especially a championship team with a phenominal coach!! I'm just wondering how you can actually "smell the roses" if your head is stuck so far up (OK...I'll keep it clean!)... |

I was visiting family in Bayonne for the first time in over three years and could not believe what I was seeing down at the 5th street field. My son played in your league around 7 years ago when you dedicated guys put that organization together. Back then you showed the entire city what can happen when a group of dedicated people work hard towards a good cause. That new field you have is spectacular. I don't usually write in these formats but was compelled after reading a few of those earlier emails. Take it from me who has lived in different parts of the country including Puerto Rico, Florida, West Orange NJ. I can tell you for a fact this league shines compared to what my kids have experienced elsewhere. The people who run this league treat it like it's a major league ball club. They make the kids feel like they are the most important part of the equation. I never sensed any politics in this league which is almost unheard of in this day and age. I hope to one day come back and live in Bayonne and would like to help out as a coach as I always enjoyed the atmosphere that your league instilled. For anyone out there who has a young child and wants to get them involved in a family run program BAYONNE CAL RIPKEN BASEBALL is the place. Keep up the good work guys. |

Bayonne October 18, 2006 10:04:41 AM Entry ID: 961848 | We would like to thank the Babe Ruth-Cal Ripken League for the past 9 seasons (can't believe it's been 9 years). Our son Pat just finished his last season in this classy top notch league. Pat started as an 8 yr old in the rookie division (the league's 1st year) went on to the Majors and was able to have 4 seasons in Babe Ruth (due to the birthdate change), what a lucky turn! We have the greatest experience with everyone in the league. While in this world we live in today, we would like to actually say "THANK YOU" and tell you how much we appreciate that we were lucky to have been a part of something so special! Our son has learned things on the ballfield that we couldn't teach at home. He has become a wonderful young man. He has come to know and meet a great many people that are so diversified, it has given him edge that some kids don't have the chance to encounter. He works down the sandlot in the summer, scores football for the city, scores basketball for the BOE and is helping Jerry with his clinic . Things that probably wouldn't have happened if not for the lessons he learned and the people he has met in this A1 league! So from the bottom...thank you to Bob, Mike and all the board members, his coaches thru the years, Jim, Charlie, Pat & Joey D...what can we say except "Thank you and Good Nite!"... The Walsh Family PS-To the parent who is not happy. Maybe you should wake up...life is short...it goes by too fast...blink and these years are a memory...try to make it a sweet memory!!!Enjoy! |

It's like that quite often in the business world so it should not shock anyone on what they hear. From my years of experience with this league several years ago it was an absolute pleasure and a priviledge to have my boy in this program. It went well beyond baseball. The organization and the fine details that the leaders think of cannot be said in just a few words. You start with that terrific sports hotline that we ( not only my child )as parents looked forward to listening to every day after all the games. The quality of play and respectful coaches in this league were so good that it made the games enjoyable to watch. The league the would then follow up with their year end awards ceremony at the HI-HAT which was handled like a red carpet affair or to compare it - a smaller version of the Academy Awards. The most remarkable thing about all of this is that the leaders went out of their way to treat each kid like a star. Since the time my boy left your league I have kept an eye on your progress with great interest and it does not suprise me as to what you have accomplished since then with that field of dreams nor with the recent rumors of the upcoming lights for next season. For that I commend you and I thank you once again for making a difference in our kids lives. |

Bayonne September 25, 2006 4:42:17 PM Entry ID: 942054 | In response to "Smell The Roses," The problem here isn't our coaching staff, for this league has the BEST coaching and volunteer staff of any league in the state! No, the real problem here is that some people really need to get a life and to let their child BREATHE and have fun! Some people need to learn team spirit, and to teach their child good sportsmanship instead of teaching him that there is no one better than he is in whatever sport he plays. Don't ever forget that no matter how good an athlete yours or anyone's child may be, there will always be at least 100 other kids out there who are an even better hitter, better pitcher, better catcher, better fielder, etc. than he is. This league (and every other league out there) is all about the kids having FUN while learning how to improve their skills. It's not all about pouting and whining and kicking the fence if your kid doesn't play the entire game. And it's certainly not about pathetically criticizing your child's own team members and coaches to anyone who will listen. You stated that "We take the best players to be on an all-star squad, but we take ANY coach who will volunteer his time to coach our all-stars?" You got THAT right! Because ANYONE AND EVERYONE WHO VOLUNTEERS THEIR PRECIOUS TIME TO OUR KIDS ARE ALL-STAR COACHES ALL THE WAY and are ALL very much appreciated by all of us parents! (except for one, obviously). I find it very amusing that the parents who whine and complain the most, are the ones who don't do a damm thing EXCEPT whine and complain. |

N Syracuse August 31, 2006 8:45:37 AM Entry ID: 922565 | N Syracuse - Manager I first want to say thank you to all of those people that participated in hosting the 2006 13 Year-Old Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament in Bayonne August 3-8th. I would like to give a special thanks to Bob DeChiaro for all of his efforts, dedication, passion and commitment to hosting this tournament and for the type of "show" he and his staff put on for all of our teams. Personally speaking, as soon as we pulled into the parking lot we know that we were going to be treated to a good time. The field was in great condition, the water in the background was awesome but most of all the pregame music, player introductions, national anthem, etc.... were better than what most minor league teams do. I take my hat off to you and your staff to a job well done! I have told my boys that this will be a memory that you will cherish for a lifetime. On behalf of my team we were proud to be part of this tournament and we look forward to maybe sometime soon visiting Bayonne again to play some freakin' baseball baby ! |

It sounds like we have another disgruntled parent ( what else is new) who was not happy with his coach. I personally have heard that before as my team won the championship this past year and you would think ALL of the parents would be thrilled that their kid learned from a good coach and that we as a ( TEAM ) accomplished something special in defeating the three time defending champs. But no.....there was a certain parent who was more concerned why his kid did not play the whole game, on the day we clinched the title and who pouted even hours after the game. The point is and obviously you and some others just don't get - is that it takes more then just talent. Yes, you have to have talent but another major necessity to have a good team and a huge reason why coaching can be fun is when u as a coach are able to take a bunch of kids and mold them together and get them to fight together and get them to respect each other through good & bad. Yes...i said through good and bad. They call that character building. Not pointing fingers, not blaming umpires and or COACHES. You indicate that the coaches are the problem and are the reason that our teams did not do better. Don't you think you as a parent who tells his kid that the coach does not know what he is doing is causing even greater harm? Have you ever for one second thought about that or looked at it from that angle? You also indicate that these coaching positions should be given to more qualified people...That is very humorous!!! Back in 1999 Jack Foley ( coach for 30 years )one of the co founders of this league and considered by most people who know anything about coaching youth baseball, to be the greatest youth coach who ever lived- actually coached that all star team. Yet when he coached that year his team lost in the district championship and while I was watching the game I listened to parents similar to you who did nothing but bad mouth the guy throughout the entire game. Here we had a baseball legend coaching their kids and they should have been so proud to have him as their leader but no, because Bayonne lost it was the coaches fault....SOUND FAMILIAR ??????????? To date we have received two new coaching applications for the upcoming 2007 season, and you were not one of them. If you think you are more qualified, please submit your application instead of insulting the volunteer coaches who give up their time and who at least DO NOT HIDE BEHIND AN EMAIL anonymously. thnx Mike Miselis...co founder of this league, board member and most important a COACH. |

Video games are the ruination of this young generation. I also think that if a parent volunteers to coach our kids, he should know the game of baseball and know how to TEACH the game of baseball, especially with all-stars. We take the best players to be on an all-star squad, but we take ANY coach who will volunteer his time to coach our all-stars, regardless of his ability to teach and coach the game. Why not take PROVEN all-star caliber coach's to develop these all-stars skills even further, and get us to the next level. That is what seperates Bayonne from the rest of the all-star teams in the States. The knowledge and dicipline the other coach's show, even during warm up's is so impressive. The teach fundementals over and over again. We just do not teach fundementals. I am not talking cut off's or how to run bases. I am talking about how to CORRECTLY field a ground ball, or how to catch a fly ball, or how to properly attack a baseball while batting. We just go in the cages and hit regardless if the kid is using proper technique. No one shows anyone how to do it the right weay, and the result is that Bayonne teams just DO NOT HIT. We have as much talent as the rest of the state, but we unfortunately do not have the coaching, for the most part, as other teams in states have. That is fact. Perhaps this year is our wake up call? I for one hope so.... |

I for one had a good time this season and although we would have liked and probably should have done better in the tournaments, we need to learn from the other teams in the states and take on the same work ethic that they did. It starts by moms and dads bringing their kids down to the games when they are not playing and having them learn how to be a good player. You don't get better playing video games and hanging out, but rather you improve by playing in the school yard, playing in the park, throwing a ball against a wall etc;;;;;; We all need to look at ourselves in the mirror, stop blaming everyone for why are kids are not succeeding and why they are not playing a certain position in the game etc; and instead teach your kid that to get better in anything that you do, you have to work at it...Simple as that!!!!! When is the last time you took your kid down the park for a catch? The next time little Johnnie asks for McDonald's, take him to 16th street instead. |
