I pretty much can do anything on the infield, but I prefer not to catch. I've been pitching for the last two years but am a little inconsistent and have been working on it. I can play as early as tomorrow, I'm very anxious to get started. I'd love to come to a practice and see if you feel I'm a good fit for your team. Thank you! Ann Marie |

It was an honor for me as the emcee to read the accomplishments of all the inductees. They were all deserving of their selection because they all played a part in the development of slow pitch softball either as a player,coach,sponsor or umpire. Thanks to all who attended the affair making it the most attended so far. |

I remember practically growing up on the baseball diamond between the overnight games and all the traveling with my dad and my 2 brothers. Ill never forget those days. Since moving away over 20 yrs. ago, I just happened to stumble across the Bull & Oyster Roast notice and attended my first event in October 2007. This year I was able to spend the entire day there, seeing a lot of old friends, smiling faces and rehashing old memories. I can't express how much I enjoyed the day. The weather and the companionship was great. Looking forward to future events and hope that the Maryland Slow Pitch Softball Association continues to grow. Thanks. |

I have stayed in contact with Robbie Smith and he told me about the association...WOW Great Job to all who orchestrated this. I understand Charlie Phoebus was instrumental along with a few others...kudos again! I hate that we have lost a few that i knew well. Charlie was a true Baltimore legend, he always showed so much respect to me and could just listen to the Charlie stories over and over. I would like to tell Tommy Shafer hello and Tommy if you read this hope all is well. As Jimmmy Trout wrote this game was our life for a long stretch, mine from 1980 til 1995... I miss the game the way it used to be played and I miss the great players, personalities and friends that I have made over the years. God willing i will be there in April to accept this honor! Cause my brother Charles Phoebus, Phil Kyte, Danny Markowski,and others felt so many players, people like Tom Schafer, Bernie Allowatt, Tommy Lord, Ted Fisher, Yourself, the great Paul "Max" Kafka", Bobby Baines, Billy White, Jim Pagano, Joe Blucher, Damien Schultz, Angelo Zanti, and so many more he met and felt deserved to be honored through the various classes of softball (A,B,C, and D ball)through in this great State of Maryland. But sadly on June 24th 2008, we lost Charley. As an Officer and Member of the Board of Director's I sort of dropped the ball on some of my responsibilities. I apologize to one an all for not being able to fulfill my duties. Meeting and renewing so many old friendships from the day gone by surely was a blessing for my brother. When I met with the Board in July (first meeting after Charles death) I informed them at that time I was not prepared to go on, but for Charles I would. Your letter helps enforce upon me the true meaning of why and how this Organization was formed. The true purpose of what the very first meeting was all about. As any young Organization we all strive to be good, but in this world today it is so difficult. So I want to thank all who made yesterday such a beautiful day (Oct 4th Bull Roast)for everyone. What a tremendous turn out and a great time was had by all. Thanks to all who SUPPORT THIS ORGANIZATION AND IT'S FUNCTIONS! To those who had prior plans or had to work, we understand, To those who just feel they don't need to attend meetings or support our functions we understand. But remember, we can only get stronger as a unit which includes your support. In closing I would like to say "Thank You TO All" to everyone for your continued support. Remember this was an idea which was thought of by many with no action, but fell upon a few who choose to take the steps to see it grow with everyone's help. Which now means so much to so many through out this great State of Md. To the Ladies and Gentleman of the Maryland Slow-pitch Softball Hall of Fame, I salute you for your great achievement. To the Nominees up for election and all Members of the Organization who love and understand this is all about Slow-pitch Softball, their teammates, friends, and commrades who the've played with or against, please help us to continue honoring those who the majority feels and elects to be rewarded with this great honor. |

Since the beginning of this "Fraternity of Athletes" back in 2005, I've enjoyed renewing friendships that once comsumed my entire life back in the 70's and 80's. All of us played in many different classes and levels, but it didn't matter, we only knew how to play the game one way, TO WIN!!! Regardless of the outcome, we would walk away with a great feeling inside that we gave it our all. I enjoyed playing slo-pitch softball more than I did playing professional baseball. I say that, because it's the truth. Danny Markowski knows exactly what I'm saying and he played a higher level of baseball than I. None of us are getting any younger! I stay in touch with "Max", Danny, Mark, Phil, Vinny and a few others via e-mail, and all of these guys bring back great memories and times in my life. THANKS! It is such an HONOR for me to be able to say that I once played ball with and against such a fine, competative bunch of men, such as you all. Over the years, I have attributed EVERY single friend that I have in this world, to the GREAT game of Softball. Now that I am getting older and am feeling the pains from playing the game so hard as a young man, I look back with not one regret. NOT ONE!!! I started playing at 19 while working at Bethlehem Steel for The Pipe Mill Electric. Thank you Bill Wiederman for the opportunity to get involved. I played as long as I felt I was able to produce on the field and at 45, with a failing hip, two shoulder operations,4 knee operations and 2 torn Rotator cuffs I had to quit. Next to losing my Mom and Dad,,, quite possibly the saddest day of my life. I always wanted to play until I was in my 60's, like Jim Sauss from the Primary Mills. I played Slo-pitch in Dundalk, I played Fast-pitch in Rockford, Illinois. I played 14", 2 season's of 16" with No gloves and one fall season of 11" (Overhand) in Wisconsin & Illinois. I have played in a lot of places with a lot of teams and my fondest memories, my dearest friends and for my money, The GREATEST Players were you guys. The DUNDALK boys! Although I wasn't blessed with blazing speed like Sid Glover, a natural home run swing like Jim Trout or John Roppelt, Softball savvy like Paul Kafka and Joe Lockwood or a cool underfire attitude like Lynn Cherry, you guys took a hot-headed kid under your wings and taught me about winning and losing. You all taught me about LIFE! Trophies come and they go and I have kept a few special ones on the shelf. But on my wall hangs every picture that I have of any team that I played on. As anyone who knows me will say, I am very long winded. And I know this little comment has gone way too long. It's just that I have wanted to tell my teammates from Dundalk that I miss them, I speak of them often and most of all,,, I LOVE them all, as only a brother can. What you have done here is great. I commend everyone behind this. Keep up the good work and don't be afraid to contact me. GOD Bless America and all of the Dundalk Boys! |

It brought back lots of good memories. Having been the commissioner of the Bethelehm Steel softball league many years ago I was glad to see so many of the guys I was privileged to play with either as inductees or board members. This is an excellent website. Keep up the good work. I was surprised however not to see Charlie Rudolph, Bob Strine, or Don white amongst the inductees. They were all well known for the contribution to Slo-pitch either as a player, coach, or umpire in and around Baltimore. I would nominate them myself but having moved out of the area I don't know how to get all the information required to submit their names. I live in York Pa. about .5 mile from the Hoffman Field complex. I often hear the games going on and drift over there to watch a few innings, but it ain't like being in there. Amen? -- Amen! |
