MIT President August 14, 2007 9:13:33 AM Entry ID: 1182958 | Mario, Thanks for your question. The Medford Invitational Tournament does not go out and scout teams who are "competitve". Many of these teams have a history of participation in the MIT and have earned the right to be here because of that. Of course, we are not pleased with some of the lop-sided scores we have been getting, but it is what it is. Our goal is to make sure that everyone enjoys the experience and judging from last night, everyone is. |

Our family has voted LUCY and LOU as the best dancers of our fan club. We love the spirit of the staff as well as the music. We have really enjoyed being part of MIT this summer. It has completed the four teams that we have been on for the season. Thanks for all your hard work! Also thanks for all the great smiles at the concession stand-and the grill cooks-we appreciate the food-seeing that dinner is usually eaten late in our family. Keep the spirit! |

Medford August 8, 2007 10:25:55 AM Entry ID: 1178797 | Once again the participation of our fans get better as the Tournament continues.Last night, although the weather was lousy,we had an excellent sing-a-long. The fans from Wakefield and Charlestown were in good spirits and really belted out "Sweet Caroline".Although there was some swaying with the song we look for improvement in that area. Just as a reminder for the Charlestown fans ,last years Charlestown group were one of the best singing, dancing and swaying group that we have evere had at the MIT.It will be very hard to out perform that group but I am confident that the 2007 group has yet to do their best.Only time will tell. As far as the people from Medford who complain, what ever happened to the "CITY SERIES"that was sponsored by the Medford Kiwanis ? What Little League presidents destroyed a great event because of pettiness ,and deceit? The volunteers of the MIT are doing the best we can to give our kids an extra chance to play Little League Baseball. What is wrong with that? |

You guys are very organized, and it looks like a fun group to play ball with! We are lucky to have a great guy that takes care of our website (nclbl.org), and I had him put some info about the MIT, and add a link to your website. Thanks again for having us. Winchester June 22, 2007 3:41:58 PM Entry ID: 1148649 | Representatives from the Team Juice organization have been in contact with NBA All-Star Kevin Garnett. Sources within the organization have leaked the news that "KG" would be happier attending the MIT Tournamnet this year rather than be a member on the Boston Celtics. I will have more news on this story as it continues. |

Malden,Ma. 02148 October 28, 2006 7:30:19 PM Entry ID: 974260 | Dear Tom, I agree to a point about kids not knowing how to catch a ball,I don't believe what type of ball is used is the important part. What it comes down to is most parents do not spend time after practice with their own kids playing catch backing up what the coach has shown them @ practice. To many coaches are graded by their parents on wins and loses, lets face it most of these kids go on after being a stud in little league to not making the cut in Babe Ruth or being skilled enough to play High School ball. I have coached for many years in Malden, I have always tried to teach fundamentals of playing little league, I also have tried to teach my players RESPECT while they are on the field or off. It is my opion that lack of respect leads to failure, to many coaches are bad mouthed by their players parents. This teaches the player LACK OF RESPECT which is carried on to the ball field, parents tell the player not to do what the coach is telling them to do. I believe that as a coach my job is to teach the player about life, respect and family. Wins and loses are not important even though winning is more fun. |

Medford Mass. October 28, 2006 2:08:19 PM Entry ID: 973984 | Why should you use a rubber ball? After watching many people having trouble catching a baseball, including MAJOR LEAGUERS,we must go back to the basics,CATCHING A RUBBER BALL BAREHANDED! When you catch a ball above your waist ,you are forced by nature to catch the ball with your fingers and your palms facing upward. When you catch a ball below your waist ,you are forced to catch the ball with your fingers and palm facing downward. Too many players learn to catch with either a plastic glove that is too small or with a professional leather model glove {the child is supposed to have that glove from age 5 to age 18} that is way too big ,and they learn bad habits. By playing catch with a rubber ball, not a sponge ball ,use a tennis ball if you are TOO CHEAP to buy the kid a rubber ball, the player will learn good habits.ALSO you do not have to worry about anybody getting hurt trying to catch a rubber ball.Remember NO GLOVES. There are many games that kids can use that rubber ball with: 1. throw the ball against a wall or stairs and practice throwing and catching 2. throw the ball in the air, to practice pop ups.You can even get one of the parents to hit a TENNIS Ball with a tennis racket to practice fly balls. 3. Develop games that a kid can play near/around the house that will improve his skills without the possibilty of breaking something with a hardball. In my old neighborhood, one of the kids inverted "Doorstops"! You drew a line about 4-6 feet away from a group of stairs and you had to stand behind that line. You threw a rubber ball against the stairs .If you caught the ball on the fly it was 10 points,if the ball bounced once before you caught the ball it was 1 point. If you threw the ball and either missed the stairs ,caught it on two bounces or more ,or if the ball hit the point of the stair and bounced back into the door you were out.We all took turns to see who could reach 100pts. Everybody learned to catch barehanded! When we started to use gloves ,nobody had to tell us or show us how to catch. I am sure that you can come up with your version of "Doorstops". Imagine if your kid played a game like this and forgot Nintendo, do you think that they would have more fun at the park? Next time ,how throwing a rubber ball and throwing a FOOTBALL will improve your childs ability to throw a baseball. A tip for all infielders who do not know how to move to their right or left! For some unknown reason infielders are taking steps toward the batter as the pitcher releases the ball! This is great if the ball is hit RIGHT AT YOU,but the ball can go in other directions! A shortstop and secondbaseman must be ready to more to their right or left and to go forward or backward .Sometimes they must go back and to the right! If you are moving forward ,HOW CAN YOU MOVE ANY OTHER DIRECTION? I have seen entire teams being taught incorrectly by people who never caught a baseball with their backs to the plate in their life! I was told that the player will be ready if a screeching line drive is hit right at them, big deal! I guess all the other balls don't count. Great fielders are very few.Players that I watched as a kid Phil Rizzuto, Pee Wee Reese , Luis Apparicio and a few more never walked towards the batter. They were ready to move at all times and in all directions, but HEY what did they know, they just caught everything especially pop ups. |

Medford Mass. October 18, 2006 7:00:11 PM Entry ID: 962941 | Sunday,Oct.15 was opening day for our clinic. At the beginning it was a little hectic but in no time at all the boys and girls were playing baseball. It is of no surprise to see how many of our returnees had grown and it was a BIG SURPRISE to see how much weight some of our parents had lost! One gentleman had lost over 60 pounds! When asked how he replied : "Exercise and Diet" One of our instructors has a new TATOO! It looked great. On the field ,there was live pitching , machine pitching ,fundamental drills and fielding. In the fielding drills ,it was reported that coach Casell was hitting and the players were making some excellent plays. We will look more closely at the fielding and name the outstanding players. A tip for our parents: if you want your player to be able to run faster let the player ride his bike more and be chauffered less.Too many of our players are slow because they just don't run or bicycle enough. Not everybody is fast, but the more you run or bicyclethe faster you will be. Next week : Why children should play with a rubber ball! |
