    REGION 11 CYO BASEBALL VARSITY RULES (UPDATED 03/07/25)

    Sportsmanship, respect for all players, coaches, and umpires, as well as the CYO Mission Aspect is paramount in importance.

    1. GENERAL INFORMATION
    a. Schedules will be agreed upon at the beginning of the season and finalized no later than April 1. Changes will be allowed only at the discretion of the commissioner.
    b. PIAA Rules are in effect except where noted.
    c. Slide or surrender at all times. Keep in mind this is a judgment call for the umpire based on whether there was a play requiring a slide. More accurate would be to say a base runner may not deliberately run into the catcher trying to break up a play.
    d. Only feet first slides except when a player is returning to a base. Headfirst slides will result in the runner being ruled out (unless returning to a base).
    e. Umpire fee is $160 per game; $80 from each team, each team pays 1 ump
    f. If a coach, head or assistant, is ejected from a game they will serve a minimum one game suspension at the discretion of the commissioner
    g. If a player is ejected from a game, they will serve a minimum one game suspension at the discretion of the commissioner
    i. The commissioner must be notified of player ejection and will speak to coaches from both teams and game umpire
    2. GAMES
    a. Will be 7 innings in length.
    b. In the event of darkness or inclement weather, 4 ? innings if the home team is winning, 5 complete innings if the visiting team is winning.
    c. Mercy Rule is 10 or more runs after visiting team has batted 4 times.
    i. If the home team is winning by 10 runs or more after 4 ? innings, then the game is over.
    ii. If the home team is losing by 10 runs or more after 4 ? innings they get their at-bats.
    d. In the event of a tie during the regular season, extra innings will be allowed at the discretion of the umpire.
    e. Umpires must be in complete control during the game. Due to respect from all players, coaches, and parents is a must.
    3. PLAYERS / SUBSTITUTIONS
    a. A minimum of 8 players is required at the beginning of any game. In this case an automatic out is to be recorded after every 8 batters.
    b. You may bat 9 or 10 with an EH
    c. Only a starter may re-enter during a game. They must be inserted into the same spot of the batting order.
    d. Courtesy runners are allowed only for the pitcher and catcher. The courtesy runner for the pitcher must be a different player than the courtesy runner for the catcher. Only an unused player may be used as a courtesy runner; one who has not participated in the game in any capacity.
    4. PITCHING
    a. Pitchers may pitch in a maximum of 7 innings in one day, but no more than 7 innings in any seven-day period.
    b. Delivery of one pitch constitutes an inning.
    c. Innings Pitched and Rest Required
    i. 3 Innings or Less in One Day ? No Rest Required
    ii. 4 or 5 Innings in One Day ? 1 Calendar Day
    iii. 6 or 7 Innings on One Day ? 2 Calendar Days

    d. Pitchers may not start an inning after he has thrown 90 pitches or more.
    e. A pitcher may be removed and returned as pitcher only once per inning, if there is no violation of the substitution, pitching, PIAA, or Archdiocesan rules.
    f. One warning is given per Balk. After that, runners advance per PIAA Rules.
    5. EQUIPMENT
    a. Helmets must be worn by all batters and base runners, otherwise they will be declared ?out? by the umpire.
    b. Metal cleats are allowed.
    c. Bats
    i. Must be 2 5/8? in Diameter, -3 Weight and BBCOR.
    ii. Umpires and coaches should check all bats before games.
    iii. Umpires will negate all runs scored on a play if an illegal bat is used.


    6. STANDINGS / PLAYOFFS / DIVISION ALIGNMENT
    a. Division Alignment
    i. Regional League
    1. Will consist of one division of ten teams
    b. Tiebreakers
    i. Tiebreakers for teams that have made the playoffs will be based on head-to-head
    ii. Second tie breaker will be runs against.
    c. All teams must report scores and pitching results no later than 1 day after the game is completed. Winning team must post the score to region website, password r11cyo. Please email wnolan501@yahoo.com any protests or issues.
    d. Standings

    e. Playoffs
    i. Regional League
    1. The last day of regular season is May 11th.
    2. Playoffs will begin the week of May 12th
    3. The top 7 teams will make the playoffs, and the first seed will have a bye.
    4. If a game is suspended due to weather or darkness, it resumes where it left off the next day.
    5. The home team will always be the better seed. No reseeding after each round.
    6. Championship game, the home team will also be the better seed.
    7. Dates- Tentative
    a. Play-in games? May 12 and 13
    b. Quarterfinal Round ? May 15 and 16
    c. Semi-final Round- May 20
    d. Championship ? May 27 neutral field TBD
    ii. Archdiocese Playoffs
    1. One/Two teams from region 11 make the sixteen-team tournament.
    2. The Region Regular Season Champion will make the tournament.
    3. Overall, Champion will make the tournament, if it is the same as the Regular Season Champion, then it will be the second team in the Championship Game.
    4. Tentative dates for the tournament start on May 27.

    Sportsmanship, respect for all players, coaches, and umpires, as well as the CYO Mission Aspect is paramount in importance.

    1. GENERAL INFORMATION
    a. Schedules will be agreed upon at the beginning of the season and finalized no later than March 31st. Changes will be allowed only at the discretion of the commissioner.
    b. Pony league rules will apply except where noted.
    c. Slide or surrender at all times. Keep in mind this is a judgment call for the umpire based on whether there was a play requiring a slide. More accurate would be to say a base runner may not deliberately run into the catcher trying to break up a play.
    d. Only feet first slides except when a player is returning to a base. Head first slides will result in the runner being ruled out (unless returning to a base).
    e. Standard field size is a 70 foot base-path and 50 foot rubber to plate distance. Due to the unique nature of each field these dimensions are adjustable based on each field.
    f. A JV player may not fake a bunt and then swing away. If this is attempted, the batter is out.
    g. Umpire fee is $65; $33 from home team, $32 from away team
    h. If a coach, head or assistant, is ejected from a game they will serve a minimum one game suspension at the discretion of the commissioner
    2. GAMES
    a. Will be 6 innings in length.
    b. In the event of darkness or inclement weather, 3 ? innings if the home team is winning, 4 complete innings if the visiting team is winning will constitute a complete game.
    c. Mercy Rule is 10 runs after 4 innings.
    d. In the event of a tie during the regular season, extra innings will be allowed at the discretion of the umpire.
    e. Umpires must be in complete control during the game. Due to respect from all players, coaches, and parents is a must.
    f. There is no run limit per inning, but there is no batting around.
    3. PLAYERS / SUBSTITUTIONS
    a. A minimum of 8 players is required at the beginning of any game. In this case an automatic out is to be recorded after every 8 batters.
    b. Each player will bat in the batting order, and you can utilize and A/B line up if wanted. Players may be freely substituted in the field. Since player participation is encouraged, it is suggested that every player be in the field at least 2 innings.
    c. Lineup is set when coaches and umpire meet to discuss ground rules immediately prior to the game. Any player arriving after that point is to be inserted at the end of the lineup. A coach may insert a player into his normal lineup position, prior to the players? arrival at the game. However, if that player is not present for his turn at bat, an out is recorded for that turn at bat and every subsequent turn at bat for that player. A team is not charged an out for a player that must leave a game early. An injured player may skip a turn at bat without penalty and return to the lineup should circumstances permit. Players may be inserted into fielding positions at any time.
    d. Courtesy runners are allowed only for the pitcher and the catcher and must be the last player to have made an out

    4. PITCHING
    a. Pitchers may pitch in a maximum of 6 innings in one day, but no more than 6 innings in any seven-day period.
    b. Breaking Balls are not permitted.
    c. Delivery of one pitch constitutes an inning.
    d. Innings Pitched and Rest Required
    i. 3 Innings or Less in One Day ? 1 Calendar Day
    e. Pitchers may not start an inning after he has thrown 65 pitches.
    f. A pitcher may not return to pitching, once he is removed.
    g. Umpire will warn the pitcher when a balk is committed. Runners will not advance. Runners picked off when the umpire has ruled a balk was committed will remain at the base they occupied.
    5. LEADS / STEALS / ADVANCING BASES
    a. Leads are permitted except when playing on a 60? field.
    b. Steals are limited to 3 per inning. The umpire will determine a steal versus advancing on a passed ball.
    c. A runner may score from 3rd base without a hit (i.e. steal, passed ball or overthrow to the pitcher)
    d. Batters may NOT advance to 1st base on a dropped 3rd strike.

    6. EQUIPMENT/BATTING
    a. Helmets must be worn by all batters and base runners, otherwise they will be declared ?out? by the umpire.
    b. Metal cleats are prohibited.
    c. Batting line up, teams may use an A/B line up after their first nine batter. Batters 1-9 will always stay the same batter 10-however many will rotate every at bat.
    d. Bats
    i. Must be authorized bats through the new USA bat rule.
    ii. Umpires and coaches should check all bats before games.
    iii. Umpires will negate all runs scored on a play if an illegal bat is used.

    7. STANDINGS / PLAYOFFS / DIVISION ALIGNMENT
    a. All teams must report scores and pitching results no later than 1 day after the game is completed. The winning team must post the score to the Region websiteb password r11cyo. Any issues or protests must be emailed to wnolan501@yahoo.com

    ii. All teams make the playoffs. Higher seed is the home team.
    iii. If a game is suspended in the playoffs due to darkness or weather it will resume next day where it left off.
    iv. Playoff game will be hosted by higher seed, if field availability is an issue game can be played away but higher seed is home team
    v. Higher seed will determine home team in championship
