Coppell rallies late to beat SL Carroll

Matthew Kaskow had four RBIs, Craig Aikin was 4-for-4, and Tyler Hernandez homered as the Coppell baseball team rallied to beat Southlake Carroll, 11-9, in eight innings Friday.

Carroll, the state’s fifth-ranked 5A team, fell to 10-1 in District 7-5A and saw its district lead shrink to one game over Coppell (23-6-1, 9-2). Carroll is No. 1 in SportsDay’s 5A area rankings, and Coppell is No. 4.

Carroll led, 5-2, after four innings and had Texas signee John Curtiss pitching. But a two-out, three-run double by Kaskow highlighted a four-run fifth inning for Coppell. Carroll scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-6 lead, but Sam Swinton’s leadoff double led to Coppell’s tying run in the top of the seventh.

Coppell scored four times in the top of the eighth, then held on for the win after Carroll scored twice in the bottom of the inning.

Patrick McLendon was 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs for Carroll.
