Down by three in the first half, El-Khoury was able to open the middle to clear the way on the outside for Joey Zarour as Saint George pulled away in the second half. Zarour led all scorers with 18 points, but, it was the inside game of NP's Bronson Cousineau that almost cost Saint George their first regular season title. Cousineau exited the game with 9 minutes left while going for a scramble and was whistled for his fourth foul. That foul changed the direction of the game and Saint George extended the lead to 8 during his absence. NP wasn't able to keep the offense in flow despite great efforts by Axel Bandoma and Noel Hernandez. JP Imad's two second half steals also led to huge opportunities for Saint George.

After two missed free throws, Kirwin was able to launch a 30 footer from the left side and as the buzzer sounded, the ball rattled through to send the game in to a two minute overtime. The teams traded two possessions each without scoring and with 14.8 seconds left, Saint George regrouped and designed a play for El-Khoury. While driving to the hole, El-Khoury was fouled by Kirwin with 1.3 seconds to play. The guard calmly dropped two free throws to put Saint George up to 2. Dionzio's 60 foot shot from behind half court clanged off the back board and Saint George held on to win a thriller to remain undefeated. Isaac El-Khoury added 20 for Saint George, while, James Kirwin had 26 for Annunciation. Dionzio added 13 and Evan Digatis added 11.

SEASON FIVE WEEK SIX:

After an early 6-6 tie, the Armenians went on a 10-0 run and a 25-10 run to open it up to a 31-16 lead at the break. Sahag/Mesrob's stifling man to man defense held down Annunciation's lead scorer Zach Dionzio to only 2 first half free throws. It was more of the same in the second half with good and balanced scoring to propel the home team to victory. Dionzio heated up in the second half and finished with a team high 15 points, while Jake Frost got back on track with 9.

SAINT GEORGE 57 - SAHAG/MESROB 47:

St. George ran out quickly and never really were challenged by Sahag/Mesrob's porous defense. After shutting down Annunciation in the earlier contest, Zarour, had his way with the opponents over playing the perimeter and drive his way to the basket at will to finish with 15 first half points and 26 overall. Sahag/Mesrob pulled with 7 at 47-40 with 4:11 to go, but, a 5-0 run by Saint George out of the time out sealed the victory as they remained undefeated. Devon Vallante was the only bright spot for the Armenians who added 12; Eric Kuhn was held to 3 buckets and only 10 points. Isaac El-Khory added 11 points for Saint George.

NORTH PROVIDENCE 51 - AAH MINISTRIES 46:

This game turned out to be the best game of the day - by far. Even without Aaron Matos, AAH gave NP all they could as Gabe Canelo's 2 free throws at the 11 minute mark of the second half tied the game at 34. After a turnover, Canelo came down and missed a three that would have put AAH up by three as the ball was half way down. After that, it was ALL Frankie Derisier as he poured in 12 of his team's final 17 points to pull away at the end to salt away the victory. Up 49-42 with two minutes to play, after a free throw by Canelo, Soriano drained a three to pull AAH with three. After a turnover, AAH had a chance to tie the game with under 30 seconds, but, the shots fell off and Axel Bandoma and Derisier hit some free throws to win by five.

In what was AAH Ministries' best game of the year; they took undefeated Saint George to the brink and just fell short in the waining seconds. Aaron Matos and Gabe Castella combined for 44 points for AAH, but, it just wasn't enough as a few buckets rimmed out and Saint George escaped with a victory. Joey Zarour kept the game in reach and with his team down by one point with 30 seconds to play, he drained a side three to give his team a 2 point lead. Matos connected 1 of 2 free throws as AAH pulled within a nick, but, just could not get the game winner as time expired. Omar Rihani added 9 and Isaac El-Khoury had 11 for Saint George. Josh Hernandez had a great game for AAH with 6 points and 8 rebounds with foul trouble.

NORTH PROVIDENCE 59 - SAHAG/MESROB 56:

Bronson Cousineau and Frankie Derisier took advantage of 8 second half turnovers by their opponents to erase a 9 point second half deficit to come away with their fourth straight victory over the Armenians. Sahag/Mesrob ran off to an early 7-0 lead in the first half led by Eric Kuhn, who had a game high 20 points. David Ayrassian hit a three before the 1st half buzzer to put Sahag/Mesrob up 32-27 at the break. Sahag played well in the beginning stages of the second half and with Garen Megrdichian's floater in the lane, it gave the Armenians a 9 point advantage at 38-29. But, poor ball handling, a few key steals by Derisier led the comeback as North Providence took the lead for good at 52-50 with 253 left. Up 6 with seconds remaining, Devon Vallante drained a three to end the contest. He finished with 16. Myles Nuey added 17 for North Providence while Derisier (15) and Cousineau (14) combined for 29.

The loss dropped Annunciation to 1-5. John Mitrelis for Annunciation and Frank Derisier for NP had 10 points each.

SEASON 5 - WEEK 4:

Saint George 58 - Annunciation 42:

Both teams got off to a very slow start and with the game tied at 7 early on, Saint George heated up and went on a 20-6 run to close out the first half led by 14 first half points by Joey Zarour. Annunciation did everything in their power to get themselves back in the game with an unbelievable offensive display by Zach Dionzio's 21 second half points. The Greeks trailed 38-22 with less than 14 minutes to play in the game and Dionzio and Frost heated up and pulled with 9 with about 3 minutes to play with torrid shooting. But, a few daggers by Isaac El-Khoury (12 points) and Omar Rihani (11 points) sealed Saint George's 5th win of the season against no losses. The pesky AAH team also had some incredible inside offense with solid put backs by Tutu-Afriyie and Soriano on top of 7 rebounds by Josh Hernandez. Vinny Demelo added 8 points for the Armenians and after being held scoreless for the past two games, Garen Megrdichian added 7 second half points.

SEASON 5; WEEK 3:

SAINTS GEORGE 47 - SAHAG/MESROB 42:

Sahag/Mesrob employed a man-to-man defense and it held down leading scorer Joey Zarour to only 4 first half points. The problem was that Isaac El-Koury dominated the defense as Sahag/Mesrob's matchups could not stop El-Khoury's 6 first half layups. Down only 23-19 at the break, Sahag turned the ball over on multiple occasions and great offensive rebounding expanded Saint George's lead by 10. With a little gas in the tank, Sahag pulled within 5, but, that was as close as they could as they could not find offense from anywhere other than Kuhn (20) and Devon Vallante (13). Zarour took advantage of zone defense in the second half and scored 10 more points to add on to his total, while El-Khoury added another 7 points to lead his squad with 20 points. Jonathan Saker added 6 for Saint George.

Vinny Denelo's clutch buckets in the second half staved off any upset bids that Against All Hope Ministries had. AAH kept the game close mainly due to awful free throw shooting by Sts. Vartz. As one of the best free throw shooting teams in the league, Sts. Vartz struggled by only going 7-30 from the charity stripe. Crooms had 14 while Hagop Teraksian added 11. Vallante led all scorers with 15 points.

NORTH PROVIDENCE 54 - STS. SAHAG & MESROB 50 OT:

Before the game started, these two teams were assured of the top two seeds in the upcoming playoffs and the game was very much like a playoff game. Sts. Vartanantz 41 - North Providence AOG 40:

Sts. Vartz used a very strong first half to fend off NP. Up 25-17 at the break, North Providence came storming back with great defense and solid offensive play by Hector Zentino. Zentino had 10 of his 14 points in the second half; this, coupled with 7 points from Jon Freitas, NP took the lead 34-33, but, Vartz stayed strong with a strong put back by George Donoyan to give Vartz the lead with 3:50 left. The game had numerous lead-changes and NP regained the lead 40-39 with 43 seconds to play with another clutch deuce by Zentino. In the final seconds, Donoyan grabbed a loose rebound and banked in a jumped with 10 seconds left that proved to be the game winner. This marks the second nail-biter victory this season Sts. What a game!! By far, the best game of the year to date. NP erased an 11 point deficit (30-19) with 1405 left in the 2nd half to overcome AAH Ministries. Solid defense and turnovers led to a balance scoring attack for NP as they chipped away to tie the game at 32 with five minutes left to play by going on a 13-2 run. Both teams traded huge buckets led by Janai Crooms and Pedro Munoz from AAH and Myels Nuey from NP. With a minute to go, Neil Freitas hit 2 free throws to take the lead 44-42; after a chance to tie the game, NP grabbed the rebound and held the ball and secured a nice backdoor cut to gain a 4 point lead - Crooms nailed a half court 3 with 0.3 seconds left, but, NP inbounded the ball with no chance to extend the game. Sahag/Mesrob could not deal with Devon's inside game as he had 13 of his game high 19 points in the second half. Teraksian hit his freethrows and had 9 of his 13 points in the second half to pull Sts. Vartz within eight, but, back-to-back backdoor cuts to Chris Parnagian sealed the deal en route to a 49-39 win. Averaging double figures per game, Sahag held Nick Bent-Ellis scoreless and Vinny Denelo to only 4 points. Both players have been very good this season. Sts. Vartz while Jonathan Saker added 6 points for Saint George.

North Providence 58 - Saints Sahag & Mesrob 36:

A balanced scoring attack in the first half led North Providence to an easy win over the Armenians. Poor shooting and turnovers led to a 28-11 halftime deficit for Sahag/Mesrob and was compounded with an early 15-8 run in the second half by North Providence. Down 43-19 with 14 minutes left, Sahag pulled the game within 14 with 9 minutes left at 41-27, but, that was as close as they would get. BARIC was assisted by Zach Dionzio's 12 points as well as major help from North Providence as BARIC did not yield enough players. Rashad Bryant had a MONSTER game with 14 points as well as Khari Mitchell who poured in 9 big points. Harrison Sailor added 2 points for BARIC, while Reyes chipped in with 6 points for AAH.

Janai's two first half three pointers kept the game within reach to allow for Munoz to take over in the second half. Down 38-30 with a few minutes left, David Ayarassian hit two three pointers to pull Sahag/Mesrob within two with 2:58 left, but, a long three pointer by Rashad Bryant put AAH Ministries to stay. North Providence 54 - Saint George 49:

Jon Freitas and Myels Nuey willed North Providence to victory with huge second half performances to finally pull away from Saint George. Saint George picked apart the 2-3 zone by NP by feeding Joey Zarour - who led all scorers with 19 points. Zarour single handily kept St. George in the game with 5 three pointers in the second half after being held to a single deuce in the first half. Down by 9 at the break (23-14), Saint George clamped down on the defense and caused some disruption in what is typically a fairly good Saints offense. After the timeout, AAH clamped down on the defense and forced a slew of turnovers to seal the victory. Seven players tallied for AAH with Crooms leading the way. Rihani had an impressive second half with 8 points in the paint.

Sts. Sahag and Mesrob 42 - BARIC Select 41:

Eric Kuhn (16 points) and Paul Surabian (9 points) led the Armenians past BARIC Select by the slimmest of margins. A close game throughout saw Sahag/Mesrob open up a 7 point lead, but, Sam Hanley (16 points) and Jake Frost (12 points) led a second half charge to pull within one. After two horrible possessions by Sahag/Mesrob, BARIC had a chance win in and with 2.7 seconds left Noah Vivieros was fouled in the act of shooting. Both free throws rimmed in and out and Sahag/Mesrob escaped with a victory that easily felt like a loss. This BARIC team will be a favorite to win the title with loads of talent. James Kirwin was held to only 9 points. Megrdichian poured in 5 crucial points to give Sahag/Mesrob a little cushion that they would sorely need down the stretch.
