Blue Ridge Titans claims Ripken Baseball Memorial Day Classic 13U Tournament Championship

 

Blue Ridge Titans 13U travel baseball team were champions of the 13U Memorial Day Classic at the Ripken Experience in Aberdeen, Maryland. The Blue Ridge Titans 13U were 4-1 for the tournament. Peyton Mehaffey was awarded MVP for two of the games by Ripken Baseball. Mehaffey had 3 home runs, including a grand slam, and had 14 RBIs with a save as pitcher for the weekend. Other MVPs selected by Ripken Baseball included Ben Gray, Dakota Lindsay, Derek Reece, and Connor Deane.

 

Blue Ridge Titans 13U defeated the Forest Hill Express 17-0 on Saturday as two pitchers Reece and Mehaffey combined to throw a shutout. The Blue Ridge Titans 13U tallied a second no-hitter Saturday, shutting out the Virginia Cooperheads 10-0, pitched by Trey Western and CJ Beier. 

 

On Sunday, the Blue Ridge Titans 13U stayed in it until the end, but the Hatboro Hornets, a team from Pennsylvania, pulled away late. The game was tied from the bottom of the fourth to the top of the seventh when the game went into a 5-hour rain delay. Upon restart, the Hatboro Hornets batter tripled, scoring 2 runs, to end on a 3-1 count.

 

Monday began the pool play with second seed Blue Ridge Titans 13U claiming victory over the third seed Forest Hill Express. Connor Dean was on the hill for Blue Ridge Titans 13U. He lasted five innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out one.

 

The Blue Ridge Titans 13U then faced the Hatboro Hornets to battle for the championship. Blue Ridge Titans 13U took the lead late in the game in a 4-2 victory over Hatboro Hornets on Monday. CJ Beier pitched the game, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out five. The game was tied at 2 with the Blue Ridge Titans 13U batting in the top of the sixth when Dakota Lindsay doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, enabling Trey Western to score one run. Ben Gray widened the gap when he scored in the top of the 7th on a passed ball. The Blue Ridge Titans 13U claimed the victory by holding the Hatboro Hornets in the bottom of the 7th, with the third out by shortstop Connor Deane.
