Brief Franchise History

The Bucks Softball Club was born as "Not Even" in the Spring of 1995. Paul Sonner from Bully's agreed to sponsor their league fees, an honor that has grown into a heavy duty sponsorship today. After having success in league play, they decided to enter some tournaments. Their first venture into tournament play was not a successful one as they lost to a team called "The Rippers" led by the immortal Dooder and some silver haired dude in jeans. Gradually "Not Even" would start to win. So much so others were asking to join the train, recognizing that potential for greatness was in there somewhere. "Not Even" would evolve into "Swoosh" in early 1997 during a drunken, winter night at Bully's. In June of that year they would pull off a stunning ASA State tournament victory over "Ben's Floor Covering" in Winnemucca, earning their first berth to a National or World tournament. The following year "Swoosh" became the "Silverbacks" and they would continue to compete and actually win some local tournaments in battles with their bitter rivals "Lahonton Valley Meats" and "FOUL". It was during that time that their hard-nosed play caught the eye of an old rancher and softball lover named Buck Sumpter. Long story short he decided to exclusively help this team of hungry Nevadans on their quest for world domination. Bucks started to travel all over the country, competing in World/National Tournaments and N.I.T.'s from South Carolina to Minnesota to Louisiana to Washington, to varying degrees of success. They have won over 50 tournaments during this run including two USSSA N.I.T.'s, one NSA N.I.T., 6 Nevada State Championships (Including 1 in Las Vegas making them the only team in 30 years to accomplish that feat), 3 top ten D World/National finishes, 3 top ten C National finishes including a 4th place finish in 2009, they won the first ever Tournament at the Beautiful Golden Eagle Regional Park, countless league titles, and more Coors Light consumed than would be recommended to a small village. Today with thanks (Or Blame)to Original members John "Hawk" Stevens, Scott "Loochy" Booth, Chris "Bullet" Follett, and Matt "Gator, Frog, Spike, Seaman, Mike, Vince Recchi" Vestbie they are recognized around the West as THE team in Northern Nevada.
