Monroe and Cox win first ever GSA "Junior Kickoff" Tour Event

July 20, 2014

The sun was finally out and shining brightly on the performance of David Monroe (Greenville) and Morgan Cox (Pickens), the boy's and girl's overall champions of our first ever GSA "Junior Kickoff" tour event held at Pickens Country Club (Pickens, SC).  George Eubanks (Roebuck) won the boys 13-15 title by outlasting an exciting 5-hole playoff with Landon Moss (Inman) and Kennedy McGaha (Honea Path) won the girl's 10-12 division.

Monroe started the day with a three stroke lead that proved hard to hold onto with a second round surge by Hunter Camp (Easley) and Matt Carter (Easley).  Monroe finished the tournament with an even par 72 for a two round, 27 hole total, 107.  Camp fell just one stroke short after carding a 1-under par, 71, to finish in 2nd place with a 108.  Carter also had a great second day carding a 1-under par, 71, to finish in 3rd place with a 109.

In the girl's 13-18 division, Morgan Cox started her second round just one stroke behind fellow Pickens HS teammates, Claire Page and Maddisen Cox.  Playing steady golf, Morgan came into the clubhouse with a score of 74 and a 27 hole total of 111 to win the title with a two stroke advantage over Claire who shot 77 in her second round, 113 for the tournament.  Maddisen received the third place trophy after carding a 78 for a two round total of 114.

It took 5 playoff holes to finally declare George Eubanks (Roebuck) the champion in the boy's 13-15 age division.  Eubanks and Landon Moss (Inman) both came into the clubhouse tied for first place with a 113 after scoring 75 and 76 respectively.  Behind Moss' second place finish was Daniel Castleberry (Greer), Rhett Merritt (Easley), and Zachary Lawter (Inman), each finishing with a 114 total.  Castleberry took home the hardward after a scorecard playoff.

The girl's 10-12 age division crowned Miss Kennedy McGaha the champion after she shot rounds of 42 and 47 for an 18-hole total of 89.  Miss Reagan Lillibridge (Greenville) finished in 2nd place with 119.

Closest to the pin honors went to Drake McAlister (hole #17) for the boys and Lauren Harkins (hole #3) for the girls.

GSA "Junior Kickoff" Weathers the Storm!

July 19, 2014

Whenever you venture into new territories there is a certain level of apprehension because you want everything to be done right!  But, when that first event is met with torrential rain and long delays, it adds even another dimension to your nerves!  Our first GSA Junior Tour event in our inaugural season will definitely be a memorable one!  We want to thank all of our players and parents for their patience and understanding as we tried to figure out how to get the kids on the course on an incredibly soggy first day!

Even with the rain we saw some incredible scores come in from the kids after a weather shortened 9-hole round one!  In the boys 16-18 age group, David Monroe of Greenville, SC was the leader in the clubhouse with an impressive 1 under par, 35.  Following Monroe was Hunter Camp (Easley) and Josh Rhyne (Gaffney) each with 37.  Matt Carter (Easley), Jackson Fleming (St. Matthews), and Wyatt Reid (Rock Hill) all tied for 4th with 38.

In the boys 13-15 age group, Drew Turner (Pickens) was the leader with a 36 followed by Landon Moss (Inman) with a 37.  Cal Brock (Greenwood), George Eubanks (Roebuck), Zach Lawter (Inman), and Conor Yeargin (Easley) all tied at 38.

The girls were equally as impressive!  In the 13-18 age group, Maddisen Cox (Pickens) and Claire Page (Pickens) tied for the lead with an even par 36.  Morgan Cox (Pickens) followed with a 37 while Lauren Harkins (Easley) and Anna Grace Brock (Greenwood) rounded out the top five with 38 and 40 respectively.

The girls 10-12 age group was led by Kennedy McGaha (Honea Path) with a 42 followed by Reagan Lillibridge (Greenville) with a 62.
