Rules for Indoor Softball
Batting
1. Each team must have 8 players on the field of play.
2. Teams can bat a minimum of 7 and unlimited max
3. EVERY batter begins his at bat with a 1 ball 1 strike count. The batter gets 3 strikes (any way they come)
4. EVERYTHING in fair territory is in play and the ball is LIVE! Meaning that if the ball hits anything in fair territory it is a FAIR BALL
Pitching
1. STRICT MODIFIED PITCHING RULES ENFORCED--If there is enough interest in Sling then we will start a Sling Tournament/League.
2. There is no TOO GOOD RULE -- If you're legal then you can pitch
The Game
1. All games are 4 innings or 35 MINUTE TIME LIMIT with each batter starting with a 1 ball 1 strike count. 1st Round games CAN END IN A TIE...Playoff/Tournament games will go into extra innings. The 5th Inning begins with the last batter of the 4th inning on 2nd base and will continue until there is a winner....if time allows it
2. ANY BATTED BALL that hits in FAIR territory is FAIR no matter what or where it hits in fair territory.
3. Outs can be made off of ANYTHING as long as it does not make contact with the ground, meaning the ball can hit off the wall and be caught for an OUT.
4. Runners CANNOT be doubled off if the ball is caught for an OUT off of anything (wall,net,etc) They can go back to their original base.
5. Runners MUST give themselves up either by sliding or moving away from any play at any base!!! This also goes for close plays at the plate-- NO BARRELING OVER OR INTO THE CATCHER!!
LEAGUE RULES
1. Uniforms: It is REQUIRED for team to have uniforms. Shirts and/or Jerseys of the SAME color....numbers are optional
2. Game and Time: GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME!!! Due to time restrictions and other teams waiting to play there will be no room for waiting--NONE!! Team must have 8 players ready to play at game time. A regulation game is 4 innings with each batter starting with a 1 ball 1 strike count or 35 MINUTE TIME LIMIT (whichever comes first). The pitcher shall have either 2 pitches to warm up
3. Umpires: All games will have 2 umps. Fees are $30 per team
4. Forfeits: A) A team must have at least eight players to start the game.
B) Forfeit time is game time- NO EXCEPTIONS!!
5. Equipment: Each team must bring 1 Clincher Softball to EACH GAME PLAYED
6. Pitching: A pitcher may start with either one or two feet on the rubber and must maintain constant contact with the rubber until the pitch is released. Pitcher may not use a windmill whip or slingshot delivery and the wrist many not be outside the elbow at any time. Palms up or down are legal. Any violation of pitching rules will result in an illegal pitch being called. 3 pitches and you can no longer pitch
8. Courtesy Runner: There will be 2 courtesy runners allowed. The courtesy runner shall be the last BATTED OUT in the lineup.
9. Bunting and Stealing: There is no bunting or stealing. Leads/Advancing are allowed after the ball is PUT IN PLAY and not before. If runner leaves early, he will be called out. Fake tags and fake double plays will not be allowed and will result in a warning to both teams the first time. Anyone, on either team repeating this action, will automatically ejected from the game.
10. Pickoffs: The fielder only has to touch all bases before the runner. On wild throws, the runner must tag base before advancing.
11. Avoid Contact Rule: Full possession by any fielder requires the runner to slide, dive, or give himself up. Any attempt to injure a fielder will subject the runner to ejection and a one game suspension.
12. Fighting: Fighting will not be tolerated. Immediate ejection will take place and league action WILL follow depending on circumstances and umpire’s report.
13. Other Conduct:
A) Any CURSING at umpires, SPITTING on umpires, BUMPING, THREATENING, EXCESSIVE ARGUING and other abusive action toward umpires will result in EJECTION and probable SUSPENSION. Excessive CURSING, calling out opposing pitcher’s name,raising your voice or trying to purposely distract the pitcher with a sudden sound or noise , or using racial slurs of any kind may also result in EJECTION. Managers and captains are the ONLY ONES to question an umpire’s call. .
B) Any player who is ejected from a game must leave the premises completely (out of sight and out of sound). If the player refuses to cooperate, the games will be forfeited.
14. Ties: Ties will count as 1 point in the standings, victories will count as 2 points. Losses will count as zero.
16. Mercy Rule: The mercy rule is 10 runs. The mercy rule is in effect at anytime, the trailing team gets double innings to bring it back under 10 runs. If not the game is over
17. Line Up Cards: All managers must submit an official line up card to umpire prior to start of the game.
18. No metal spikes are allowed THIS A TURF FIELD!! Sneakers & Turf shoes are preferred...rubber molded cleats are allowed
19. Any batter who throws a bat is an automatic out the first time. The ball is dead and everyone goes back to the base they came from. Any bat thrown flagrantly will result in automatic ejection for the day without an umpire’s warning.
