Paturzo catch leads to triple play to end game

Manasquan vs. Monroe 5-1-2015

The Warriors erupted for 8 runs with 2 outs in the second inning and a recorded a game-ending triple play to hold of Monroe 8-6.

Kevin Fay singled with 1 out to start things off for Manasquan in the 2nd inning. Following the 2nd out, Matt Edwards singled to center advancing Fay to third. Edwards stole second base setting up 2nd and 3rd for Tommy Sheehan. Sheehan worked a full count fouling a few 2-strike pitches off in the process and looped a single to left center scoring Fay and Edwards. Max Hawkins and Tyler Bradley then drew back to back walks loading the bases for Tanner Cowley. Cowley drove a 1-0 fast down the right field line clearing the bases for a 3-run triple. Ty Hawkins then came up and drew a walk bringing Jack Sheehan to the plate. Sheehan turned on a 1-0 pitch and sent it over the left field fence for a 3-run home run to push the score to 8-1 at the time. Fay added a double to left center after the Sheehan homerun, his second hit of the inning.

The Falcons would not go quietly and put up 5 runs in the 5th inning to make the score 8-6. Galvan would also get a 3 up, 3 down 6th inning and Monroe held the Warriors scoreless in the 6th.

Tommy Sheehan with complete game 2-hitter

Game played in honor of Col. John M. McHugh

Tommy Sheehan picked up his 1st complete game victory of his career in Manasquan's 5-1 victory over Holmdel. Sheehan faced only 23 batters (2 over the minimum 21), walked 1 and struck out 4. Sheehan raised his record to 2-1 for 2015.

In a well pitched game by Sheehan and Holmdel's #1 pitcher Ashwin Jain, who limited the Warriors to 5 hits on the day, the Warriors would get all the runs they would need in the 4th inning. With 1 out, Sheehan led off the inning with a double to left. Max Hawkins and Tyler Bradley followed with back to back walks loading the bases. John Driscoll, serving as a courtesy runner for Sheehan, would score from third on a wild pitch and move Hawkins to third and Bradley to second. Jain would then register a strikeout but the ball was dropped by the Holmdel catching forcing a throw to 1st base to record the out. The speedy Hawkins at third would take off for home on the throw and beat the return throw to the catcher to make the score 2-0. Ty Hawkins then singled to right scoring Bradley and making the score 3-0.

Up 3-1 in the top of the 6th, Tommy Sheehan led off the inning with a single to left center. Driscoll would enter the game again as his courtesy runner. Driscoll stole second and then was attempting to steal third when Max Hawkins hit a slow roller to third on a full count. Hawkins beat the throw to 1st and Driscoll, hustling again like he did in the Vianney win on Tuesday, took off for home on the throw to 1st and beat the throw home to score. With 1 out, Tyler Bradley singled to center, stole second, and then stole third and a misplayed throw from the catcher allowed Bradley to score and run the score to 5-1.

Tommy Sheehan would then retire the Hornets in the 6th and 7th, 3 up and 3 down in each inning, to preserve the win for the Warriors. Sheehan went 3 up and 3 down in 5 of the 7 innings and never faced more than 4 batters in the other 2 innings on the afternoon.

The Warrior defense played error free on the day in 33 chances (21 putouts and 12 assists).

Manasquan played the game in honor of Col. John M. McHugh and the Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund wearing their camo jerseys with the Johnny Mac Fund logo.

Saito "shines" in win over the Roses

Caccavale breaks record in shut-out

Tues. May 20, 2014

Manasquan ended their 2014 behind a stellar performance by Senior Austin Saito in the shut-out over St. Rose. Saito would go 6 and 2/3 innings allowing only 1 hit while walking 2 and recording 7 strike-outs. Austin's last 3 starts of 2014 would all result in Manasquan wins. Saito threw 5 innings of 1-run ball in each of the victories over Wall and Point Boro (winning pitcher) in his last 2 starts. Saito's line for his last 3 starts include:

Starts - 3

Record - 2-0

Inn. - 16 2/3

Hits - 10

K's - 18

ERA - 1.08

"Iron Man" Caccavale Breaks Record....

With 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th inning, Saito would give way for his teammate Tucker Caccavale to record the last out of 2014. Caccavale would end the game with a 3-pitch strike-out to close out the game to his long-time catcher Tyler Bradley. This would be Caccavale's 16th appearance on the mound for the season. This breaks the record set by Mike Brower in 1983 and Mike Mahady in the state championship season of 1986.

(Left...Tucker and Tyler Bradley from their MES days...and then their last time of 2014)

Caccavale appeared in 16 of the Warrior 22 contests of 2014. Caccavale's line for 2014 would end up:

GP  - 16

Record - 1-1 2 Saves

Inn. - 27.33

Hits - 22

K's - 17

Opp. BA - .210**

ERA - 2.30**

** - TEAM LEADER

Offensively, the Warriors would get all the runs they would eventually need in the top of the 1st inning. Tanner Cowley lined a 2-strike, 2-out single to right scoring Tommy Toole and Max Hawkins. This would give Cowley RBIs #17 and #18 on the season (2014 team leader). The Warriors would score 2 more in the top of the 6th. Manasquan got one run on a misplayed ball by St. Rose allowing Max Hawkins to score from second base and then Tommy Sheehan would knock in Ty Hawkins with a single to centerfield. The Warriors added one more in the top of the 7th courtesy of a Max Hawkins RBI single scoring Matt Paturzo.

On the day for the Warriors:

Saito - 6 2/3 inn. 1 hit 2 BB 7 K's

Caccavale - 1/3 inn. 0 hits 0 BB K

Seniors lead Squan to victory

Mon. May 5, 2014

Jack Sheehan's 1-out single in the botom of the 7th scored Tommy Toole with the game winning run making the Big Blue walk-off winners over Wall. Toole tripled to right center to set up Sheehan's hit that avenged a 2-1 loss in 10 innings to Wall last year.

Toole also picked up the win in relief entering the game with 1-out and runners on second and third. Toole got to the 1st batter to pop up to second base, hit the next batter and finished the inning on a called strike three.

Senior Austin Saito went 4 strong innings for Manasquan scattering 5 hits while striking out 3. Fellow senior pitcher Tucker Caccavale went 2 and 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the 4th inning, Max Hawkins, who had tripled to right center scored on an RBI ground-out by Ty Hawkins.

The Big Blue had two defensive gems today from their outfielders. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, CF Max Hawkins fired a perfect relay from the right center fence to Toole (2B) who then cut down a Wall runner trying to stretch a doublle into a triple. In the 6th inning, LF Tommy Sheehan, after an attempt on a diving catch towards the line, would recover to hit his brother Jack with a put-out at third of another runner trying to strectch a double into a triple.

This was the Warriors 2nd walk-off victory at home this year.

Manasquan defeats Point Boro, Saito breaks HR record

The Warriors defeated cross town rival Point Boro Wednesday by a score of 6-4. The Big Blue trailed 2-1 going into the bottom of the 5th. Nick Lustrino would reach on an error after battling with a 2-strike count. Tyler Saito would then homer to right to put the Warriors up 3-2. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th, Lustrino would deliver what would be the game winning RBI's with a 2-run single making the score 6-2. Again, Lustrino would do so with a 2-strike count. Boro would plate 2 runs in the top of the 7th for a final score of 6-4.

Alex Branch would pick up the win for the Warriors going 6 2/3 innings surrendering 7 hits, while striking out 7. Jack Capotorto would come in with 2 outs and 1 on in the 7th to pick up the save with a game-ending groundout.

Tyler Saito's homerun in the 5th would put him now at the top of the MHS All-Time record for homeruns with 13. He entered 2011 tied with MHS great Sean Rydholm (1989-1992) with 12. Saito set the single season record in 2010 with 8. Congratulations Tyler and the Saito family for your accomplishment.

Saito homers at Citizens Bank Field

On June 28, 2010, Manasquan 1B Tyler Saito (Brielle) added another chapter to a memorable 2010. Saito, playing for the Jersey Shore team in the Carpenter Cup finals, homered to left to lead off the 2nd inning at Citizens Bank Field. The stadium is home to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Jersey Shore Team would go on to win the championship by a score of 7-3. This marks the 3rd time in the prestigious tournament's history that the Jersey Shore squad has won the event.

With Saito's blast, he becomes just the 2nd player from the Shore Conference to ever homer in the event when the game has been played at the home of the Phillies. He joins this club with former Shore Conference long ball king Marc Fink (Jackson Memorial) who accomplished the feat twice in one game on June 16, 1994. Fink was a 14th round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 1994.

Congratulations Tyler and to the rest of your Carpenter Cup teammates and coaching staff!!

SAITO BREAKS MHS HR RECORD

With his 7th homerun of 2010, Soph. 1B Tyler Saito (Brielle) has broken the MHS Baseball record for homeruns in a season. The record belonged to Manasquan Hall of Fame inductee Mark Lockenmeyer (1977). It was also shared by Sean Rydholm (1992) and Tim Murphy (1998).

Tyler would add to his single-season record by hitting his 8th of the season against St. Rose on Friday May 14.

With now 12 homeruns in his career, Saito has tied Rydholm (12) for homeruns in a career.

The Manasquan Baseball family would like to congratulate Tyler on his accomplishment.
