MANNY WILSON NEWS

7 September, 2019

Boston Housing Authority (BHA) Police Officer Emmanuel “Manny” Wilson was tragically killed in the line of duty on September 26, 1992 while responding to an officer in need of immediate assistance.

Emmanuel Wilson graduated from Roxbury High School and Alabama State University with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology. Manny was appointed to the BHA Police Department in 1991 after completing the Massachusetts Police Training Council police academy in Needham. Manny was involved with the Roxbury Boys and Girls Club for several years as a basketball coach, weight trainer and youth mentor. Manny cherished this role, and had countless profound and special relationships because of his work with the Boys and Girls Club.

BHA Police Chief Stephen Melia in remembering Manny said “the fact that Manny dedicated his life to helping others and sacrificed his life while attempting to help someone in need speaks volumes as to his character.”

Chief Melia believes that Manny’s character is aptly summarized by this Walter Reuther quote:

“There is no greater calling than to serve your fellow men. There is no greater contribution than to help the weak. There is no greater satisfaction than to have done it well.”

Indeed Manny will forever be remembered as a man who selflessly demonstrated his desire to serve his fellow man….his sacrifice will never be forsaken or forgotten.
