Huge Announcement!!

June 9, 2017

Having had a heartbreaking season after pulling out a second place a year before, the Trojans have been disbanded, even after only two years of play and being the second team to be announced that they would be joining the league. The Mustangs and the Gladiators will be the two lone standing teams from the very beginning.

But, in hopes of rejuvenating the league back up, the IKL have decided to add two more teams to play in the 2018 IKL Season. They will be...

The Raiders...

and the Tigers!

This year, the IKL will also introduce a division system.

There will be both the Naptown Division, which will have the Mustangs and the Gladiators, and there will be the Circle City Division, which will have the Raiders and the Tigers.

The divisions will be called these names, as Indianapolis' most common nicknames are Naptown and Circle City.

The Mustangs and Gladiators will play against each other more often, because they are both in the same division, and the same will occur for the Raiders and the Tigers. (The 2018 Schedule will be posted the same day the rosters are released.)

The divisions will have no effect what so ever on the playoffs.

Finally, and maybe most importantly, the Indianapolis Kickball League, have changed their name from IKL

to Major League Kickball.

What do you guys think of these changes?

Will this rejuvenate the league?

Will most of the games be played like the 2016 Season, and unlike the 2017 Season?

We'll just have to find out.

Who will we crown today?

Today is the final day of the 2017 IKL Season, and we have at least 2 games that will be played today.

The first game to be played is Gladiators @ Trojans.

The next series will be played between the winner and the Mustangs. This is a best-of-3 series, so there will automatically be two games. Last year, the Mustangs swept the Trojans 2-0 in the series. Can they do it again?

What's at stake?

Gladiators: If the Gladiators win, they will automatically have the best ending position in the two seasons that have been played. It would be their second time facing up against the Mustangs in a series in the playoffs, last year losing to them 110-4. If the Gladiators lose, they will get third place for the second year in a row and their name may be changed.

Trojans: If the Trojans win, they will be able to have their revenge on the Mustangs, and it will be the second year in a row the Mustangs and the Trojans met in the Kick-Bowl. If the Trojans lose, they will get third place and their name may be changed as well.

Mustangs: The Mustangs are already in the Kick-Bowl, so they will at least get second place. If they win the series, they will be the first team in IKL History to repeat, and they'll still be the only team to win the championship. If they lose the series, they will gain second place.

We'll have to see what happens, as the games creep near.

Final Regular Season Day!

Today marks the day that the regular season will come to a close, a week before the championship is set to start.

Even though the day is Memorial Day, we will still have to play if we want to finish before Summer Break.

Four games will be today, one being a make up:

Gladiators @ Trojans

Mustangs @ Gladiators

Gladiators @ Trojans

Trojans @ Mustangs

The Mustangs have already locked up the number one seed, with a nine-game winning streak in stock. They look to repeat the path to the championship from last year, going 11-1 in the regular season, and going undefeated in the playoffs.

The Trojans and the Gladiators will both play each other in the Wild Card matchup, it's just a matter of who will be the home team that matters today.

The four games today are all good, and we look forward to a tense, beautiful Memorial Day afternoon.

Week 3 and 4 Report

As Week 3 was postponed, the Week 3 and the Week 4 games were rescheduled to be on the same weekend.

During the Week 3 makeup games, only one was played, between the Mustangs and the Gladiators, giving the Trojans two forfeit losses as no one on their team showed up.

The Gladiators started off with a fast start, in the only game of the day, gaining 3 runs in the first inning. The Mustangs got a hold of 2 runs, making it the Gladiators leading, 3-2, into the 2nd inning. Then, the Mustangs grabbed two outs before the Gladiators kicked in 4 runs, with the third out coming soon after. The Mustangs then went to the limit, with 8 runs and then stopped the Gladiators to a 0-run third inning, making it a 10-7 win for the Mustangs. The Mustangs ended up with 7 home runs and became 5-1 with that win as the Gladiators became 2-4 with the loss.

In the first game of the next day, the Gladiators and the Trojans battled it out for the 2nd place spot. The Gladiators kicked in 3 runs, before allowing a 1-run inning to the Trojans. The Gladiators quickly got two outs in the top of the second, before getting 4 runs, making it 7-1. The Trojans grabbed three runs before the Gladiators ended the second inning. In the third inning, the Gladiators got 6 runs, opening a huge 9-run gap between the two teams. The Trojans needed 10 runs to win the game... and they did just that. The Trojans quickly got one out, which started off a 1-out rally, gaining 5 runs, before some controversial plays occurred. First, Cameron S. kicked a ball to the tree, which hangs over 1st base, and Jake F. (helping out the Gladiators) came flying over to catch the ball. The Trojans claimed that when the ball hit the tree it became a foul and dead ball, while the Gladiators claimed that, although it would become a foul ball, you can still catch it because it's just like a regular foul ball: it's only a dead ball when it touches the ground. The Trojans prevailed from the argument and the game played on. Then, Henry D. (helping out the Trojans) tapped the ball lightly, which, according to the IKL Handbook (Title III, Section II), should be considered a bunt. The game was being played under a no-bunt rule, as there was not enough players to field bunts, which should be called a re-kick. But the Trojans thought otherwise, as the ball traveled all the way past third base. Again, the Trojans prevailed the argument as play continued. Both plays could very well have changed the outcome of the game, but the Trojans still one the game 14-13, giving them the third win of the season.

In the second game of the day, and the third and final of the weekend, the Mustangs and the Gladiators faced off against each other in a 1 inning battle, as time was running short. The Mustangs gained 10 runs, and then, with the help of a record-breaking pitching performance of Henry D., stopped the Gladiators to a 0 run inning, giving the Mustangs their 6th win of the season.

This upcoming week is the 5th week of the season, and as we're nearing the end of the regular season, we hope to see the best games we've seen yet.

Halfway Through the Season!

After today will mark the halfway point of the 2017 season and the race for the first round bye is close. With each team with at least one loss and one win, there will not be any winless seasons or undefeated seasons and with such a close race for the title, it only shows how close the competition is. The three games this weekend may have to be canceled though as the weather is not projected to be the best.

The games today are:

Mustangs @ Gladiators

Mustangs @ Trojans

Trojans @ Gladiators

Hopefully we'll have a good turn out. See you on Bears Blacktop!

Week 2 This Saturday!

This weekend is the mark of the second week of the second season of IKL. The Gladiators are looking to come back from Opening Week's two losses, losing in a 1-inning face-off against the Trojans, then forfeiting against the reigning champs, the Mustangs.

The Trojans are looking to continue their hot streak off the start of the season, beating the defending champs, then beating the Gladiators.

The Mustangs look to continue their hunt for the back-to-back titles with two games up this week.

The second week of the season looks to be exciting with these upcoming matchups.

Trojans @ Gladiators

Gladiators @ Mustangs

Mustangs @ Trojans

This week could either be a week where one team pulls away from the pack, or they all even it up.

Be on the lookout for the scores of this week!
