CanAm Collision

Thanks to Belle Tire for hosting an exciting weekend of Hockey.
Congratulations to Team Canada for winning the 2008 CanAm Collision.

The CanAm Collision was designed to have the top 96 AAA teams from Canada and the United States represent their countries in a Ryder Cup type competition for Hockey. The selection committee invited the top four ranked teams as of September to participate in this competition where they wore jerseys representing their respective countries. In its inaugural season, the CanAm participants wore jerseys of the utmost significance. Team USA donned the 1980 Team USA jersey, and Team Canada proudly wore the 1972 Team Canada jersey.
The Canadian teams faced off against the USA teams and vice-versa. The event culminated with the final game on Sunday including all 8 teams.

Al MacInnis leads St. Louis team to Silver Stick title

WHITBY -- It's remarkable how much a good coach can accomplish in sports.
Take, for example, Al MacInnis, the Hall of Fame defenceman who's convinced a group of 11-year-olds from St. Louis that sticks and pucks can be just as much fun as bats and balls.

And, oh yeah, he's also turned them into the best hockey team in North America for their age group.

MacInnis's St. Louis Amateur Blues team dominated the opposition at the 19th annual Gloria Rints Memorial International Silver Stick Tournament in Whitby, allowing three goals over six games en route to winning North American bragging rights for a second straight season.

The Blues' Minor Peewee AAA team posted shutouts in their first four games before beating Team Comcast of New Jersey 3-1 in the semifinal and Detroit's Belle Tire 5-2 in the championship game.

But, when prompted to toot his own horn, MacInnis turned the spotlight back on his players, a group that includes his son, Ryan.

"That's kids working hard and taking pride in keeping the puck out of our net," he said in explaining their defensive dominance. "They've got free rein to do what they want out there and as long as they work hard and make good hockey decisions, that's all you can ask for. They had a blast."

Blues Clues!
Congratulations to Head Coach Al Macinnis and the 1996 AAA amateur Blues hockey Club that won the North America Silver Sticks championship last weekend in Sarnia, Ontario. This is the first time since 1979 that a team outside of Canada or Detroit has won this at the Atom AAA age level. The Blues beat the Toronto Marlies in the championship game. The Marlies are ranked #1 in Canada. This is a big accomplishment for Al and his players!
