Jamie Bliss Tournament
Subscribe to our NewsletterDear Parents:
I cannot believe how quickly this year has flown by. The Caldwell Atlantic Club along with the 8th grade boys travel team and the 7th & 8th grade girls travel team will be hosting the 7th Annual Jamie Bliss Memorial Holiday Basketball Tournament. Just a little background information for those of you who are not familiar with this tournament. In October, 2006, Jamie Bliss passed away on the football field during football practice. He was a 16-year old Junior at JCHS who was a 3 sport varsity letter winner, an honor student, and a role model to everyone.
In order for the tournament to be successful each year, I ask the parents of the 8th grade boys and girls to volunteer their time (as a matter of fact, I ask everyone to volunteer which includes the refs). The proceeds that are raised go to the Jamie Bliss Scholarship Fund at JCHS. I am proud to say that each year we raise the most money!!!! I am very passionate about this tournament for two reasons:
1. Jamie was a role model, an honor student, a student athlete, and a wonderful young man whose life on this earth was cut way too short.
2. Jamie was my son’s teammate and he was on the field with Jamie and the rest of the football team when Jamie passed.
So over the next week, you will be receiving emails from Ms. Hester Tynes, “Jamie Bliss” Tournament Chairperson. Please block off dates for the tournament from December 26 through December 29 (the games will be held at JCHS and GCMS). If your son or daughter will not be able to participate in the tournament, please advise your coaches as soon as possible.
Regards,
Lisa Merriweather
