Rule Changes for 2018
There are 2 significant rules changes that are being implemented in youth baseball nationally in 2018.
Rule #1- Little League Baseball has adapted a new age rule cutoff that effectively moves the age determination date from May 1st to September 1st of each year. Anyone playing sanctioned tournaments will have to be aware of this age determination change. The TriCounty League will continue to be structured based on the school grade a player has just completed. Pee Wee will be players leaving 3rd & 4th grades and bantam will be players leaving 5th & 6th grades. There will be no planned changes to this structure based on the age rule changes at this time.
Rule #2- USA Baseball has adopted dramatic changes in bat regulations for almost all sanctioned Leagues. Beginning in January of 2018, all bats used in sanctioned leagues & tournaments will need to be stamped with a USABat designation. This rule generally applies to all Little League, Pony League, Cal Ripken & Dixie Leagues. All bats that were BPF 1.15 in prior years would be ineligible under the new requirements. The Tri-County League is NOT a sanctioned league so we have some flexibility in bat regulations. The Tri-County League planning committee has agreed to have a 2 year period for the 2018 & 2019 seasons where any bat that was eligible for league play prior to Jan. 2018 will be grandfathered in for eligible use. Eligible bats for 2018 and 2019 seasons are detailed as follows:
1) Prior to 2018 standard: Barrel diameter at 2 ¼” or less and stamped “Little League Approved” OR
2) Bats stamped with the new USABat designation.
Beginning in the 2020 season all bats must meet the USABat designation for Tri County League play. Please remember anyone playing in sanctioned travelling tournaments may be required to have USABat approved bats beginning January 1, 2018.
