Barons 2009

Change is a good thing! The Falls Church Barons made some big changes in 2009; revamping the management structure, moving up to play in the ultra competitive NABADC AAA division and adding some old friends back to the Barons roster. The season went extremely well with a 12 win 11 loss record with great battles against the Blues, A's, Yankees,Brewers and a great playoff series with the eventual AAA Champions, the Sneaky Weasels. The '09 Barons All-Stars were: Scott Nelson, Kevin Sudnik and Matt Marduez.

The '09 Fall Season brought out more excitement and great baseball as the Barons ran through the regular season, coasted to a 2nd place finish and battled the Alexandria A's in an epic Fall Ball Championship series. The A's brought out the heavy artillery in game one, skunking the Barons 14-0 behind the arm and bat of J. Bell. Game two saw a battle of Aces as C. Davis out dueled D. Lorhman in a 3-2 thriller, the big break for the Barons came off a Marduesz bases clearing double in the 6th. The rubber game was an all time classic as the 9 innings were contested in an hour and twenty seven minutes. The Barons Nelson pitched a complete game two hitter, but was bested by the A's Bruton who threw a no hitter! The only run was scored off a sacrifice fly in the second inning and the scoring dried up after that. The A's won 1-0 to capture the Fall Championship. The Barons ended the season just short of another championship, but with the knowledge that spring offers another shot at the A's and another run at the title.

Barons have a historic 2008 season

In what will go down as a season for the ages, the Falls Church Barons sweep the Falls Church NewsHounds in the all Falls Church final to complete an undefeated season and win the AA League Championship. It was not easy, as all three games ended with the minimum difference of one run. Barons end the Spring/Summer season with 26 victories 0 losses and 2 ties.

The Barons participated in the 2008 Fall Ball season, combining with the Alexandria Storm and adding some rookies to the roster. The Barons went 5-2 in the Fall regular season, including a victory over the mighty Alexandria A's in extra innings. The Barons cruised in the first round of the playoffs and met the '08 AAA Champions, the NOVA Knights, in the semi-final. In a closely fought semi-final game, the Knights squeezed out 3-1 victory in a great pitchers duel. The Knights would eventually tangle with the mighty A's in the Fall Ball final, and come up just short of a double championship as the A's prevailed in a great series.

The Barons finish the '08 season with 32 WINS 3 Losses 2 Ties. WHAT AN AMAZING SEASON! See you all next spring.

Barons History

HISTORY:

The Falls Church Pirates were founded on 10 April 2004 by Rafael A. Martinez. The teams’ foundation is based on former Fairfax Indian Players and players acquired via the NABADC draft. The team is comprised of players with diverse playing experience, from college level ball to varsity High School Baseball! In the inaugural season for the Pirates, it was a bit of a rough go. The team wound up with a 6-18 record, which was good enough for a 11th out of 14 teams finish. Regardless, the experience of being an expansion team was unique and unforgettable. Manager Rafael Martinez started this team with only ONE player, his good friend and co-manager Miguel Marti. Soon the roster expanded and a bond and friendship was created by all the members of the Pirates. After games the team would go out for beers, and usually meet up for special events. The team Chemistry was good and morale was high because everyone was there to play win or lose....and if we lost there was always the after party!!!

2006 saw a big shift in philosophy as the Barons played the most determined baseball in the teams' history. After a stunning upset of the defending champs in the second game of the season the Barons were poised to make a run at the extremely tough Virginia Division. In the end the Barons fell short of their playoff championship dreams, but compiled impressive wins over perennial powerhouses : Tenlytown Brewers, NOVA Knights, and the Alexandria Riverdogs. Paul Gonzalez broke out and along with John VPOOL Vanderpool was named 2006 ALL-STARS.

2007 looks promising as a the pitching staff is being bolstered, and there could be a return of the former pitching work-horse Janni Papakrivos. An old friend is also returning as Arun Ramesh is back and looking to once again blast baseballs over the fence.
