Jaguars was established in Atlanta Georgia 2000, under the name of East Point Jaguars it was started as a women semi -professional team to give the ladies the opportunity to continue to play basketball within the community after their college career was over , Coach Shaw had taken Atlanta by storm being the first women traveling team in the state for women basketball and had some of these women to get the opportunity to see the overseas market, when some of them thought their dream would not become a reality Jaguars organization became the strong hold to seek the ladies opportunity and was able to start sending ladies over sea for the professional market.
Purpose:
We are diligently working on building our coaching staff, securing a venue, and selecting players who will represent our community and have the opportunity to get paid for something they love to do. We will give these players a job opportunity and a way to support their families with the help of our community and business leaders. We are a Christian –based organization, so we take the time to build solid community relationships. Our goal is to build a professional Men’s ABA team and add a professional women’s WABA team to the southeast region of Atlanta. It is our intent to obtain a partnership /sponsorship with you. We seek support to serve as an outreach program for youth and young adult men and women, who have the ability to play the game of basketball at the highest possible level, but failed to achieve NBA success.
The East Point Lady Jaguars and East Point Jaguars are an established, 501(c) (3) non-profit organization for the past eight (8) years, with desires to unite and rebuild communities within the Atlanta metropolitan and surrounding community areas. We hope to give these talented athletes an opportunity to live a genuine and productive life, by through assisting them in building moral character, self respect and determination to be better citizens, one athlete at a time, one block at a time and one neighborhood at a time.
Focus:It is Jaguar’s focus to mentor youth with various backgrounds. We see these youth in the news and hanging out on street corners, and we call them “TROUBLED TEENS or AT RISK KIDS.” “But God sees all these youth and call them his.” We love these “at risk kids” and we are concerned about them. God is sending his people to express his love and show them the way out of multi-generational bondage. We know that today’s youth are facing very difficult circumstances. These youth need to experience love and the fellowship of Christians.
The foundation of any community is businesses that support in the development of its youth. Throughout our spiritual lessons, we are taught the valve of faith, patience and service. It disheartens us when we see our youth unable to partake in youth activities while the community does nothing. The Jaguars are trying to make a difference in this community and county with your support by helping neighbors come together with the goal of nurturing our youth through education and sport activities.
We need active mentors in our community to help our youth grow and succeed. The lack of youth organizational activities in poor neighborhoods are examples of the rise of single parent families versus two working parents, and has this lack has reduced the number of positive adult role models. Today, there are twenty–five percent of children living with single parents before they are eighteen years old. Our mentors must serve as positive role models and help our youth develop socially and emotionally as well as help them to understand and communicate their feelings, with the ability to relate to their peers and develop relationships with other adults. The Jaguars have known about strategies that make youth mentoring work.
We understand that ineffective mentoring can harm adolescent youth. Youth mentoring works best when goals are focused on developing trusting relationships between adults, parents and peers. Programs focused solely on behavioral goals, such as achieving better grades or resisting drug use, are successful. Let’s compare the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization: they only portray a modest effect on the youth’s grades and attendance. The Jaguar’s endure to assist a child in developing socially to allow them to benefit in other areas of their adolescent life. Parental involvement is also an advantageous goal. We seek to get parents involved in a way that does not threaten the youth by improving parent-child relationships
