SMITHVILLE WARRIOR WRESTLING

Your Smithville Warrior Wrestling Squad has started practicing for the 2015/2016 Campaign. The Warriors graduated a 4 year Varsity Letter-winner in Brody Lamb, but many puzzle pieces remain as the squad re-loads for the new season!  Smithville's only 2X State Champion, Luke Sachs, returns for his Senior year; State Champion Alex Rivera is working hard to become the second 2X Champ!  The squad is also bolstered by three Seniors who are returning State Qualifiers; Jake Bollinger, Trysten Snarr, and Jacob Bohlken, who looks to make it back to the State Championships for a 4th consecutive season.  Summer National Champion Jake Boyd is ready to make a run to the finals in his Junior season, and Austin Purtle is also looking to make some noise in his Junior Campaign; Both have already qualified for State 2 times, and both placed at State last season.  The Squad also has high expectations for several promising freshman beginning their High School careers, including Blake Ackerman, Mitchell Bohlken, and Brian Boyd.  Several experienced returning wrestlers will also be working hard with the goal to get to Columbia, including Jared Thornbrugh, Nick Bollinger, Thomas Nielsen, Zach Coffman, and Jacob Perez.   The lineup should be one of the most complete that the school has ever had as the Warriors look to put together another run for a State Title!  Come out to see the Warrior Wrestlers in action at their annual "Green/White" intra-squad meet at Smithville High School on Tuesday, November 24.  Matches will begin at 6:00 pm... hope to see you there!

Warriors repeat as Champions @ Diamond State Duals in Springdale, AR

In front of a great crowd Wednesday night, your Smithville Warrior Wrestling Squad battled both Staley and Belton High Schools, resulting in a split. In the first dual of the evening, Smithville won 10 of 14 matches, including 5 pins (126-T Nielsen, 132-B Lamb, 138-J Bollinger, 285-J Bohlken) on their way to a 46-21 win over Belton. Staley HS took on Belton in the 2nd match of the evening, winning by a similar score (45-26), setting up a much anticipated dual between the Warriors and Falcons.  Smithville won 6 matches, 4 of which were by fall (126-T Nielsen, 132-B Lamb, 138-J Bollinger, 285-J Bohlken); Staley won 7 matches, and benefited from an 'open' in the Warriors lineup at 152 lbs.  The Falcons won the last two matches of the night by decision and won the dual by a final score of 33-30.  There were several close matches in this dual that could have gone either way, which made for an exciting night of wrestling!

Your Warrior JV squad will be on the mats again this coming weekend at the Mid-Buchanan JV Tournament, which begins at 9:00 am on Saturday. The Varsity Squad will hit the mats next week on Tuesday night, hosting Belton in a great MEC matchup.  This will be senior night, and is the last home event of the season on our current schedule.  Hope to see another great crowd!

Jake Bohlken places 1st at Heavyweight

Your Smithville Warrior Wrestlers placed 4th at the always tough 'Bobcat Classic' on Saturday evening!  Alex Rivera, Brody Lamb, and Jake Bohlken became the first Warrior Wrestlers to make the finals at this event.  Rivera and Lamb placed 2nd, Jake Boyd placed 3rd, Luke Sachs 4th, Jake Bollinger 6th, and Austin Purtle 7th to pace the Warriors.

The Warriors will travel to Cameron next Saturday, looking to win their 4th straight conference title!  Hope to see a big crowd at Cameron!!

Thanks very much to everyone who helped at our clean-up day this past Sunday evening!  We were able to clean all of the mats, and then piece everything together so that we have a double layer of mats, wall-to-wall in both directions!  This will be a great improvement for the wrestlers, as they will have safer space to work on, and more of it!  Still a few things we are working on to enhance the room, which should be complete in the next week or so...  Can't believe it, but the season is nearly on us!!  Here We Go!!
