2007 World Series Story
At the conclusion of the 2007 season, the Tar Heels finished first in the South Atlantic Conference's North division. The 2007 Regional Tournament was held in Myrtle Beach, SC at the Cal Ripken Experience Complex.
The Tar Heels dropped game 1 to the University of Georgia and then beat Wake Forest later in the day. In order to advance to the World Series, the Tar Heels would have to win 3 straight games. The Heels beat Florida State in the first game, and the University of Georgia in the 2nd and 3rd, and advanced to the World Series in Fort Myers, FL.
In the World Series, the Tar Heels defeated UC Davis 10-6 in the first round. In the second round the Heels beat the University of Maryland 14-0. Facing Maryland again in the semifinals due to the double elimination format, the Heels lost 6-0. In the semifinal elimination game the Tar Heels faced Maryland yet again, winning 6-2, sending them to the National Championship Game.
In the Championship Game the Tar Heels faced the University of Oregon. The game was close until the end, and the Tar Heels pulled away to an 8-6 win. Chris McCurdy was named World Series MVP.
