Pete Champagne

Coach Champagne founded the Maine Maniacs in 2004 with just one team. Over the years the club has grown to the point where in 2011 the Maniacs fielded 10 girls teams, with kids representing 35 different towns in Maine. Champagne graduated form Cony High School in Augusta in 1981 and led the Rams to the Class A state final and was named all state his senior year. After high school, Champagne attended the University of Southern Maine. Besides coaching numerous Brunswick Recreation house and travel teams, Champagne also coached at Brunswick High School from 2001-2008, the last two years as the women’s varsity assistant coach and will be coaching the Brunswick High School girls this off season. Champagne coaches numerous Maniac teams throughout the year.
 
Matt Hancock

Matt Hancock enters his seventh season as a Maniacs coach. Coach Hancock led a Lake Region team to the 1985 Class B State Championship and later was a three-time college All-American. In his senior season, Matt was the NCAA Division III National Player of the Year at Colby College. He was also a final cut from the Boston Celtics rookie camp following his last year in college. More recently, chasing his three daughters around the hardwood, Matt has coached over 150 recreation and travel league games and brings a great enthusiasm to the Maniacs. 
 

Rebecca Singleton

Rebecca Singleton started coaching with the Maniacs in 2014.  Coach Singleton played on a very successful Cony High School team in the late 80's helping the team win two state championships under the leadership of Coach Paul Vachon.  She went on to receive a full basketball scholarship to Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts where she earned her BA in both psychology and education.  She was fortunate enough to be added to Assumption College's list of 1000 point scorers. After college, Rebecca went on to begin her teaching career and coached at both the middle and high school levels.  She then took a break from coaching to start a family.Today, she is in her 22nd year teaching and is thrilled to be back coaching basketball.  

 

Walt Foster

Walt Foster graduated from Richmond High School in 1982. Foster attended Husson College where he excelled in Baseball ans Soccer. He is currently coaching the Brunswick JH 8th grade girls basketball team, after 18 years as the Mt. Ararat JV/Varsity Assistant girls coach. Coach Foster is in his 6th year with the Maniacs. He is also in his 23 season as a Soccer official and Baseball umpire for the State of Maine. Foster is the CEO of Champs Screenprinting and Embroidery, the official uniform and apparel supplier of the Maine Maniacs.

 

Lou Dearborn

Coach Dearborn was one of the original co-founders of the Maine Maniacs along with Pete Champagne in 2004. From 2004-2014 Dearborn coached various age levels for the Maniacs. He took the first Maniacs group to 6 straight AAU Maine state championship games winning 5 of them. Coach Dearborn graduated from Greely High School in 1979 as one of the states most decorated competitive swimmers. He attended Northeastern University where he walked on to the football team and started every game in his college career. In addition to coaching a lot of youth programs in the Brunswick area over the last 20 years, Dearborn also helped coach the Brunswick HS varsity basketball team and sub varsity group for years during the off-season.

 

Steve Fortier

Steve Fortier grew up in South Portland, Maine and attended Cheverus High School in Portland. Steve played point guard for four years at Cheverus under coach Bob Brewer in the early 90's. Steve graduated from the University of Southern Maine in the late 90's. Recently Steve has coached Brunswick Recreation Basketball, Cal Ripken, and the Cape Elizabeth Travel league since 2009. Steve has been coaching with the Maine Maniacs since 2011.
